Possibly one had been laser enchanced and retained some radiation. Not to worry that is NOT dangerous. It is however not possible to determine if genuine by some form of light. The usual test is electric conductivity. Have stones tested by a jeweler .

1) Look through magnifying glass Real diamonds are formed under the earth crust with the help of natural forces acting upon it over million of years. Due to this there are imperfections in the carbon. A real stone will be perfect - absolutely perfect. Even there are synthetic diamonds which is not identifiable. Its better to take it to an expert. 2) Sandpaper test. since diamonds are one of the world's hardest stone and it won't be scratched by the rough surface. If you scratch sandpaper to a real diamond then nothing will happen but if it's a cubic zirconium, it will scratch it up. 3)Fog Test. Breathe hot air on your diamond as you would do on a mirror. A fake diamond will fog up for a short period of time whereas a real diamond will not because it won't retain the heat

There's a way for verification. Place the diamond under a bright light. If it is a fake diamond, the diamond will appear to be totally transparent under the light. If it's real, the light will not penetrate through the diamond totally. Good luck!

The way it was explained to me was that real diamonds have Flaws, while fake diamonds do not. How do you spot them, take it into a jeweler, make sure the diamond is GIA (Gem Institute of America) certified.

Your best bet is to take your ring to a local jeweler for an appraisal. If your ring is a fake you will not be charged for the appraisal. If it is real, you will know how much it is worth and if you want to get a jewelry rider added to your homeowners insurance policy to cover the loss of your ring.

Could be yours was just in need of cleaning. Sure-fire test for a diamond = only mineral that will cut glass. Try it on a window pane or mirror.
