As a german, I heard/read that in the US many people don´t say "Happy Christmas", but "Happy Holiday". Why is that so? Please don´t tell me that it is because of "not offending" the non-christian people. Even MACYS and the president (!?) don´t write "Christmas" anymore. Is that true? That would be such a shame...

The other people find it politicaly correct to say " Happy Hollidays". I think that it is a shame as well. The only reason we have this holiday is because of Christmas and I think we should say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Christmas" because of what the holiday is for. The birth of Jesus Christ! Jesus is the reason for the season!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Unfortunately what you say is true of our government & most businesses and even more unfortunate~it is true of a lot of civilians here in the USA. But not all!! I still say Merry Christmas to everyone and so does my family. I don't care where the people are from or what their religious preference is, it is still Christmas!!! As I recently stated in another answer to another question on this subject~happy holidays could be used at anytime throughout the year. July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, MLK Day~these are all HOLIDAYS!! We have been celebrating Jesus' birthday for over 200 years here in the US on December 25th~Christmas! I really don't understand why so many people think that we should stop NOW and I for one~WON'T!!!
Thank you so much for your question & your viewpoint!

Merry(Happy) Christmas to you & everyone else that reads this!!

Unfortunately, "Christmas" has almost become a taboo in America. Some people who do not celebrate Christmas get offended when you tell them "Merry Christmas", so corporate America decided that rather than offend anyone, they'd say "Happy Holidays" instead.

Unfortunately, as someone who celebrates Christmas, it's offensive to me to sell things for Christmas, show pictures of Santa who is a figure for Christmas, sell Nativity figurines, but label everything simply as "holiday decorations". They are Christmas decorations.

They should have a separate section for each holiday, that way no one gets offended.

Yep, it's true. Someone here said that they wished an African man a Merry Christmas and he got pissed because they should have said Happy Kwanzaa. I don't know what the big deal is though. So what? I mean how offended could one be at that? Like so offended you can't sleep at night? C'mon, that's just stupid. Sometimes we have to just let people be pissed and not care. You know? Go ahead and be pissed that I wished you a Merry Christmas. What damage was done? We are a blame based society - sad but true.

because of the fact maximum Christians are unaware that the yule trip existed long until now Christians desperate to have fun the delivery of their lord on the comparable time. they think of that they invented the social gathering, and that others are robbing it of its rightful meaning. in the event that they stopped to ask your self why a number of our carols communicate approximately yule, or why there are yule logs, or why we've Christmas timber and mistletoe, then they could hit upon the glaring fact: the trip's unique meaning had no longer something to do with Jesus. by ability of how, everybody ever ask your self what the music "Twelve Days of Christmas" is all approximately? there is in basic terms sometime of Christmas. in very fact, that the unique pagan pageant of yule became twelve days long.

people say happy holidays because not everyone celebrates christmas. some people celebrate hannukah or kwanza or other winter holidays that i can't think of right now. are you a christian? if so how would you feel if someone said "happy hannakah" to you? they don't want to offend anyone. if you want to say "happy christmas" thats fine but make sure you know that you might be offending someone.

well in America we say "Merry Christmas" but it isn't necessarily not to offend anyone, but more to make sure we include everyone. When saying "happy holidays" we can include the all faiths and holidays without feeling left out. how would u feel if it was the norm to say "happy hannukah" and thats all people ever said to you. wouldn't u feel a tad left out and slightly annoyed? we're just trying to eleminate taht.

It's not that there is a problem with "Merry Christmas", but that using "Happy Holidays" encompasses so many more of the diverse celebrations of this season.
