First i would check the basics(make sure the speakers are plugged in, turned up etc) then i would check the sound card inside the computer(find it by looking at where you normally plug in the speakers and it should be little box(unless you bought an extra one which would be futher down the computer)) check and see if it works. If your computer crashed then you probably mean your hard drive in which the speakers probably werent affected. Unless everything overheated then you might have to replace it. If you replace it just buy another sound card and install it.

Usually the problem is with a Sound Driver. Most computers these days use VIA chipsets, so the first thing you'll want to do is IF you're using a VIA chipset, get yourself a copy of the latest VIA 4 in 1 Drivers, next you'll want to find out what type of Motherboard you have (since most sound cards are built into the Motherboard) and get the latest driver from your MoBo manufacturer. If you're not sure what kind of MoBo you have, you may want to install AIDA32, this will tell you what brand it is.

You may need to reload your sound drivers. Hopefully you backed your system up or have a back up disk from when you brought it.

Also, make sure your speakers are on and the sound isn't on mute. I'm not trying to be stupid but I know someone who brought a new computer because they thought the mother board was failing and the sound was the first to go. They brought a new computer and was transfering files and notice that the volume was disabled and enabled it and guess what... sound !!Womp Womp!!

Happy holdiays

This is an incomplete question
does your system crashed mechanically or something else?
does its all component except sound are working?

if yes then
try to reinstall the sound driver of check for mechanical faults like wiring, device status, errors etc

to reinstall a driver
insert the motherboard cd
goto controlpanel,add hardware,search(recommended)
good luck!
