Stat Boy covers it very well.
I am NOT in favor of bigger goals!!!! Period!!!!!
Even though the goalees pads have been reduced slightly in size they are still too big. A simple solution would be to reduce all of the goalees equipment, blocker, glove, and even the tons of equipment under his jersey.....I mean geezzz! Some of these guys look like Sumo Wrestlers but are only 170 lbs.
Bring back goalee equipment to the size of 1980!

Despite post-lockout rules implemented to increase offense in NHL games, scoring is down slightly from last season, and league executive Colin Campbell is mulling a rather radical idea: making the nets bigger. They currently are 6 feet long and 4 feet high.
"I know this is going to rock some traditionalists, and I can say this because I'm one of those, but I really think we've got to look long and hard at bigger nets," Campbell, the league's director of hockey operations, told The Canadian Press.
NHL games were averaging 5.8 goals entering Thursday, down from 6.1 goals last season. The figures do not include goals awarded to the winning teams in shootouts. In 2003-04, the season before the lockout, games averaged five goals.
As you might imagine, Campbell's suggestion is going over with goalies about as well as a clean breakaway by Jaromir Jagr in overtime.
"Cringe is one word," Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco said.
But even Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla, a two-time goal-scoring champion and a member of the league's rules committee, isn't sold on the idea.
"I think we do want scoring to be up," he said during a conference call with reporters. "It's not where it was at all in the '80s, from what I understand. (But) I think a lot of people want (changing the nets) to be a last resort because it changes records and things.
"As a player and a fan, I would hope that we can find other ways first, which they said they're trying to do. Hopefully, there are some other things you can adjust in the game without changing the nets."
The league experimented with bigger nets with college players in Toronto in September. Campbell said the idea would be on the agenda when NHL general managers meet Feb. 18-21 in Naples, Fla.
Goalie equipment already has been reduced and Campbell said making it smaller is not an option.

it will not happen, the game has change to much in the last 5 to 10 years. Gary Bettman needs to be out of the office we need someone around that can help the game not just change something cause he fell like it. Gary Bettman must be fired by the league and that's when things will start to look better with a new face.

Somebody in the NHL did think of the idea. I disagree with it. Some people in the NHL think to sell the game it has to be all offense. Whoever thought of the idea had to be smoking the whacky weed.

I did hear they were thinking of having no limit on the curvature of the blades on hockey sticks.

I didn't hear about increasing the size of the goal.

What's next, the referees holding up yellow and red cards like in soccer ?

I believe they're pondering a size of 8 inches higher and six inches wider. They believe it will increase scoring. Whether it happens or not, it's hard to say.

If you want an even bigger eye opener, they're pondering realignment of the teams and restructuring conferences. Check it out at this link:

They've brought it up in the past to the Competition Committee, which consists of players and officials. No one is crazy about the idea. Everyone but Bettman (surprise) is of the opinion that for now, the tinkering needs to stop.

Please. Somebody. ANYBODY!!!! Save the NHL from itself. It is on a suicide mission to increase scoring. If they want to increase anything, make the playing surface bigger.
