Kerala refers to a political region -- an area settled by humans. It does not refer to a geographical location.

Kerala is part of Dharwar craton and of Precambrian age (apx 0.6 billion years or much older). It is one of the very old areas of earth's crust. Formation of the Himalayas (Himalayan orogeny) is geologically a quite recent event, the earliest movement is apx 0.055 billion years.
