can a detachable shower head hang below the overflow and still pass building code inspection?

Question

I am installing a new detachable shower head over a bath tub and have heard that the shower head cannot hang below the tub overflow when the flexible hose is fully extended. I cannot find any building code referenceonline that answers this question. Thanks for your help.

As stated, all areas have differing codes. International Residence Code says yes, if it has a vacuum breaker installed. This is basically a check valve that will prevent contaminated water from entering the potable water supply. You should be able to tell if on in installed as there should be a bulge prior to the pipe entering the wall. Call a plumber if you have any questions. Do your self a favor, don't skimp on this. Code requirements are for a reason. Somewhere, sometime, someone had an issue and a problem was caused. Even though remote, the chance is there that something could go wrong. Don't install a proper head, then re-install one that is non conforming.

Every state has different building codes....you didn't say where you're doing the work. Also, some municipalities have additional rules.

my guess is no. Chance for contamination of drinking water from vacuum.

It's a remote chance.. but it could fail for that reason.

Install a temporary head for inspection and replace it after approval.

sure, my bathe has a removable bathe head. whether its super for women folk individuals, i like it too. It helps me to get in close and be sure i'm rinsing all that cleansing soap off. some adult adult males like somewhat "vibration" too
