On Christmas Eve, my family and i are going to a very big Christmas party at one of our friend's houses. Everyone we know is going to be there, and I haven't seen some of my friends for ages. I want to wear something that will make a lasting impression. I want it to be a sort of "preppy" look. What I have so far is dark gray tights, gray velour abercrombie miniskirt, beige gianni bini ballet flats with blue bow,and louis vuitton charm bracelet. the shirt is where i'm having diffuculties. i could wear a tight winter white turtleneck, a long sleeved baby blue collared shirt, or a white polo and some sort of logo jacket. please help me to pick which shirt would look best. thanks!

hmmmm... well I wish you had a blue turtleneck, because I think the white would clash with the shoes. The collared shirt doesn't sound like it would look right with the skirt either. Do you have a plain blue long sleeved shirt with maybe a more scooped neckline to wear with it? I guess it sounds like too much color/texture as the choices are. All the peices sound adorable, but you are going to need to find a way to tie the beige shoes to the grey skirt and tights. sorry i couldn't be of more help.

You are all being WAY too fashion conscious to be truly preppy. First of all, the age of the person is very important. Are we talking pre-teen, teen, college, or adult? They are all very different preppy looks.
Based on the tone of this posting, I'd guess the author is about 16 or so. Remember, being preppy is all about looking casual and old money. It is NOT about outward labels. Labels and names are immediate markers that you are nouveau riche and therefore, lower class. Truly preppy clothes are relatively frumpy and certainly a far cry from sexy. I suppose some brands are acceptable: LL Bean, Landau, stuff made in Nantucket or Maine or whatever.
I say a nice cashmere sweater, a modest pearl necklace, a below the knee pleated wool skirt, hair in a ponytail tied back with a simple bow, and some clean, stylist shoes and you'll be ready to go. Simple, mid-sized fashionable handbag. Being truly preppy you don't need to cover yourself in Dior, Chanel, and whatever. Leave that to the flash in the pans from Hollywood and trophy wives of wall street types. Your ancestors came over on the mayflower and set up the New York Stock Exchange. What do you have to prove? Hell, maybe even some wear and tear on the elbows of that sweater would be a good thing.

your top needs some blue to go with the bows on your shoes. i would go with the baby blue collared shirt or the white polo as long as the logo jacket has some sort of blue to go with the shoes!

I would wear the long sleeved baby blue collared shirt. Blue and gray compliment each other and the beige would also compliment the outfit. But you might want skin color or light gray tights.

I would go with either the light blue polo shirt or the white polo and some sort of logo jacket, if it was me i would go with the white polo shirt it sounds more " preepy" to me.

I would definitely wear the white polo. With the collar popped. And don't forget your accessories. Maybe one of thise pearl necklaces that tie with a ribbon. And wear your hair in a side ponytail, with a ribbon or a headband. It's pretty easy to look preppy. Good luck!!!

i would say a white polo with a logo jacket, or a baby blue short sleeved collared shirt but not a long sleeved one.
