They're speaking a false language called Samoleon (not sure of spelling). That's the language they use in the game. You're not going crazy :)

Edited to add: OOP - as the other posters have said, it's Simlish, not Samoleon. Samoleons are the money they use.

Don't worry. Sims don't speak in English (or any other real language). The programmers created a new language for the game, called Simlish, which is a gibberish language. It doesn't matter what version you install, the Sims always sound like that. But the sense of the words come across really well, doesn't it?

And Simoleons are the currency, not the language.

No, it's not a glitch. The sims have there own wierd little language they speak in. You aren't supposed to understand it. You select a language in order to be able to read the directions on the game.

You didn't do anything wrong, the Sims speak gibberish. You're not supposed to be able to understand them, that's why they have the thought bubbles above them that have what they're talking about.

Sims speak 'Simlish' - it's gibberish, but it's logical gibberish. They did that so they wouldn't have to make new dialogue files for every distribution.
