The MAIN reason we celebrate Christmas in December is so that all the companies can end the year ahead, financially.

The holiday of Christmas [dec 25] is supposedly supposed to have been created to celebrate the birth of the Christian messiah Jesus. This is infact untrue, though. Christmas is a complete rip-off of the non-Christian holiday "Yule" [ever hear anyone say the phrase 'yuletide blessings'?] Most "Christian" tradition(s), belief(s), and practice(s) are actually based on Pagan [non-Christian] roots. The early Christians turned many of the Pagan practices -- as well as the Pagan gods into Christian practices and "saints." Such as the saint Brigit. She was actually a celtic goddess that the church decided to canonize [turn into a saint] because her followers loved her so much, and it would be easier to try to get someone to convert to your religion if you include things that they know and love. Actually, Jesus would have been born somewhere near March, actually. Dec 25th is also the birthday of the Persian god "Mithras." Many people believe Jesus to be a Pisces because of his supposed nature...and anyone born on Dec 25th is technically a Capricorn -- which people don't know if they do not follow the Zodiac. One has to be born in late feb-mid March to be a Pisces.

In ancient times, people would come together and have great feasts around the time of the winter solstice in order to celebrate the sun. Since of course winter means less sun and cold, rough times ahead. These times were all very joyous and people came from all around to spend time with loved ones. When Christianity came along, they took this celebration and commandeered it as their own, calling December 25th Jesus Christ's birthday. Unfortunately for them, history has determined that Christ was born sometime around September, and was actually conceived some time early in December, around the 8th.
Today, people of all faiths celebrate Christmas, not as Christ's birthday, but as a day to come together in peace and harmony and give presents to people you love and have great meals to celebrate life. It is a great day to spend not worrying about the regular problems of life and to just enjoy yourself.

The celebration of Christmas on Dec 25 was instituted to coincide with the feast of Mithras, one of the middle-eastern gods worshipped in Rome. This is the same sort of thinking that led to churches being constructed on the sites of temples to non-Christian gods.

Mankind was lost in darkness before the Light of the world came so it makes sense that we celebrate His coming at the darkest time of the year.

So that this holiday would coincide with the festivals that the Romans celebrated for the Winter Solstice.

To overshadow pagan celebrations, steal traditions and try to convert. Nice holiday.
