Send him a disposable camera (or two). Have him take pictures of his friends and the sights. He can send you the camera to be processed. Make duplicates of the pictures. Send him one set to share and keep one set in a photo album for his return. Send him another camera when you send him the duplicates.
One thing I miss from my time in the military is not having photos of my time in service. Another is not keeping in touch with my friends. He can use the duplicate pictures to write down addresses and other contact info (parents' addresses and phone numbers) on the back.
Happy Birthday to him.

So - give him some stuff that reminds him of home and gives him a piece of home away from home. Pictures of you, notes from you, collect some notes from friends and relatives to put in the package, send some home type candy or something shippable that he likes, take some pics of his favorite places, favorite memories, etc. Make it personal. He'll appreciate having a piece of home and some good memories. How about some music from home?

nothing x rated mind you, but send him lots of pictures of yourself. funny stuff, like you wearing his clothes, sitting in his car. some sexy stuff but never x rated for over seas. lots and lots of pics. make a cardboard cut out of him, and do things with it like eating, watching a movie, etc... take pics of the funny things. it will be really cute to send to him.
