"Mama, quit yer bellyachin and whinin. I told ya that ya ain't gonna get that 12 gauge shotgun fer Christmas. Ever since ya done seen them that possums in the backyard, ya won't leave em be."

Are those sentences gramatically correct? Do the sentences have proper structure?

*correction- them thar possums, NOT them that possums. How could I make such a dumb mistake?

The first two use correct syntax. (Understand that the grammar is indicative of the Appalachian dialect.) The third sentence does not. The dual verbs "done seen" are not proper, regardless of the dialect. The sentence should correctly read "Ever since ya'd seen them thar possums..."

If you write it in that accent, it shouldn't be grammatically correct, lol. A character with a dialect like that doesn't need correct grammar--it's not believable enough that way.

That being said, it looks great! If you change anything about the grammar, you'll lose an essence of the character. Keep it the way it is! ;)

The proper format would be:

Mama, stop your belly aching and whining. I told you, you're not going to get that twelve-gauge shotgun for Christmas. Ever since you saw those oppossums in the backyard, you won't leave them alone.

Since it's dialogue, you can write it any way you want, and no one can say it's wrong.
