Any sprain takes 6 weeks and sometimes it's worse than a break. You are doing the right thing. Ice on 20 min. off for at least 30 then after two days you can start adding heat after the swelling has gone down some. You also need to be taking an antiflammatory...Alieve or Advil. The dose needs to be higher than on the Over the counter says. The Prescription doseage would be 3 advil with food or milk. If you can take asprin it is the best. You can rotate if you need to every 6-8 hrs. Keep it elevated and use an ace bandage. Start wrapping above the toes and make it snug but not too tight. tighten it a little around the arch of the foot. This helps keep it imobile. You still need good blood circulation so don't make it too tight. You should take it off for a while each mornig and afternoon when you are off it. Put it on for sure if you plan on getting up and around. If you start swelling around the edge of the bandage it is too tight. Then try to stay off it. Anyone have crutches or a cane you can use ? If you are still swelling after 3-4 days see a DR. they will x-ray and maybe send you to an orthopedic...so, it will cost. You should have a bruise I would suspect in a day or two, purple, then yellow. That may happen and is normal if it's a sprain. Remember also, once you hurt yourself like this it will probably always flare up and need TLC off and on for life. Especially the foot and ankle because they hold us up. Good luck and stay off it and use the ice.

At times a sprain ankle hurts worse than an actual fracture. I would recommend that you go and have an xray if you can afford it, if you can't continue doing what your doing, wouldn't apply the ice longer than 20 minutes and not directly on the skin, have protection between the ice and your skin. Off and on for 20 minutes intervals. If your ankle doesn't become better within 2 days then I difinitely would go and get an xray. even if it's sprained it wouldn't be a bad idea. the medical facility could give you something to help support the ankle to make it feel better. We all know that we can't stay off our feet for a long time, so you will need some kind of help.

The arch in your foot could have fallen. Do to the doctor ASAP or even the ER if it's too bad.

I do believe that you need to have it x-ray, that is nothing to play with. don't wait for 48 years before you have to go to the hospital...
