Have found that the brushless car washes have such strong detergents that the lubrication is taken out of the door locks and soon could not open the locks until more lubricant was added. I prefer car washes with a brush.

What is the difference between brushless and touch free wash?
Typically, brushless means that we use soft cloths to clean a vehicle instead of brushes with bristles which tend to scratch the exterior of a customer’s vehicle.
What kind of detergents do you use?
Alkaline detergent is best because it does not contain as much alcohol and ammonia as regular detergents
How important is it for a person to have his/her vehicle waxed?
Waxing adds a protective coating to vehicles. This process makes sure that the vehicle cleans easily and does not require harmful scrubbing. It is recommended that a vehicle should be waxed at least once every two months to maintain that sparkling shine.
Are there any downside to waxing a vehicle?Back To Top
There is only one drawback to car wash wax and that is that it may add some smearing to your windshield. The waxes that Squeaky Clean uses are designed to resist smearing. But it is difficult to avoid since waxes need to bond to surfaces to be effective. In our experience, this smearing is seldom a problem and does not pose a safety issue. The worst that occurs is a windshield with patches of minor waxy buildup evident during periods of rain.
What is the most effective product, if any, that can be used to remove the wax from the windshield?
We try to alleviate the wax build-up problem by using a product called Clear Away. It is a small packet of powder which is added to the windshield wiper fluid. How this works is when you purchase a gallon of wiper fluid, before pouring into the container, add two packets of Clear Away. This is used to dissolve the wax buildup from the vehicle’s windshield. For every carwash that is purchased at Squeaky Clean, the customer gets 2 free packets of Clear Away.

I think brushless is better but mostly the brush ones are fine too.

One thing to watch out for, a brushless wash will tend to force water into your door locks. If you live in an area that freezes and you do not have electric door locks, that could cause problems.

This wisdom is that sometimes rocks or sand can get embedded in the brush type car washes. I'm not sure how true this is, I've never experienced it. If you have light dirt on your car, the brushless type is probably the safest. Also, they won't wreck your antenae. The brush type works well for taking off heavy amounts of bugs though.

The brush type car washes often have grit and dirt trapped in their brushes and will usually put many fine scratches in your paint job, brushless is ok but will not clean everything off the paint but it is good enough to at least get a good amount of dirt/salt/mud off the paint.

Brushless/Touchless washes are great until you get lots of grim on the vehicle. I usually stay away from the Brush Washes as it will usually scratch your clearcoat. However, if you wash the brush off before use it shouldn't scratch you paint up to bad.

The best by far if you have the climate is to mitt wash your vehicle it will reduce the chances of getting scratches in your clearcoat

that depends on the area you live in and the kind of grime on your car.

A good rule of thumb when you can't do it yourself is 1 touch style wash for every 4 to 5 touchless type washes.

Try this.
Go over to the kitchen sink.
Wash your hands, but don't rub them together.
Are they clean?
