I am 14 and am a very good singer, actress, dancer, and artist. My goal in life is to star as either Elphaba or Galinda(Glinda) in the Broadway musical WICKED. i know all the songs, and can sing them perfectly. I live in VA, so there isnt much of a chance here. How can i get started (i dont plan to be in WICKED until i am much older, but i want to know how i can get maybe talent scouted?) I would really like to do this. I have enjoyed musical theatre since i was about 4. If you have any suggestions to how i can get started, please let me know or e-mail me at goldfshhh@yahoo.com. Thanks for all your help!

Get into community theater for now... there should be something nearby that you can do for a while. Also, when you get older, look for apprenticeship programs. These are great ways to get experience, and many allow you to earn your credits for the AEA.

As for getting into the theater immediately, there probably isn't a whole lot available for someone your age. I'm not trying to be mean, but you are kind of young for most roles. Community and school theater is a good way to gain experience, and the more work you do now, the better your chances are of getting roles later on (always have to worry about your resume!!). Plus, doing some tech work for a theater production is always a great way to get experience for your resume, especially if you intend to try an apprenticeship.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to get experience doing as much within the theater as possible.

As for WICKED, I wish you luck with that! I love WICKED, and I'm also hoping to play Elphie at some point (I'm only a few years older than you, so I still have a little while before I'll be ready to audition). Good luck, and I hope things work out for you!

Since you don't live in L.A. or NYC, you're stuck with less glamorous but still vitally important developmental opportunities:
SCHOOL!!
and community theatre.
Did I say SCHOOL!!!

Go to see all the school plays, too, and any and all other plays. Rent movies of the great musicals, too, since that is where your heart is. Watch and learn how actors in the films and on stage did what they did.

Be persistent!!!
