...praise Allah!! The American people have spoken- Muslims in public office will run this country!! Yipee!
I guarantee all you Christians out there are watching this very closely- right??

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. - A congressman said Thursday that he will not retract a letter warning that unless immigration is tightened, "many more Muslims will be elected" and use the Quran to take the oath of office.
Republican Rep. Virgil Goode triggered angry responses from a civil rights group and some colleagues with a letter this month to constituents concerned about a decision by Rep.-elect Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the first Muslim elected to Congress, to use the Quran when he is sworn in.

A Muslim using the Quran as his holy book for the purpose of being sworn in to public offide is hardly an infiltration. There are some people who refuse to be sworn in as witnesses in a court of law. They promise to simply tell the truth. Swearing on a Bible is a Christian tradition, but purely ceremonial. A Muslim using the Quran should be viewed the same way. Rep. Virgil Goode should keep his opinions to himself in this case. Unfortunately, many of our lawmakers are not the most discrete among us.

U know this is really ironic, one MUSLIM congressman got elected and took his oath on his holy book, instead of the bible, which would mean nothing to him, thus rendering his oth useless.
Because of that action u think ur country is being destroyed, yet u elect a president, who has cost you trillions, of dollars, and thousands of American, Iraqi, and Afghan lives in wars that made no sense and are not going anywhere. Your congress contains child molesters, yet you are willing to overlook that, your congress was even slow to act when Katrina hit, yet u have no problems, ur economy is barely alive, u are in debt to china, yet the pentagon wants 99 billion for ur military misadventures and no one gives a sh*t. So why yall so concerned if u have 1 Muslim congressman?

That's the whole point of America... as long as you respect the Constitution you can live freely, practice any religion you choose, and anyone from anywhere in the world can come here and become 100% American if they so choose. To the extent that we become a closed or bigoted society, the enemies of freedom are winning.

People are sworn in using anything that is sacred to them, Bible, Quran or the Fannie Farmer Cookbook. What does it matter? Just because they swear an oath doesn't mean they are actually going to follow through anyway.

After the Nov '06 election, after so many years, I felt proud to be an American again. My constant belief in American people has been reestablished; it was very badly shaken since 2003. Seeing the answers to this question solidifies my belief.

Yes sir, like my bretherns, I would like to say, let it be a popsicle, or a cookbook or whatever...we want them to take their oath seriously to serve us, our nation.

The use of the Koran or the Bible to be sworn in is simply a device to impart upon the person a sense of seriousness. They could swear on the Vedas or a Popsicle if it meant something to them.

I don't get your question...

Oh dear! Next thing you know, politicians will be swearing on "Dionetics" by L. Ron Hubbard.
(BTW Ellison is my representative, and although I was slightly concerned by his past, and there were other high quality democrats running in my district, I'm sure he'll be a great, young, energetic, democratic congressperson representing the Great State of Minnesota.)

Goode should be kicked out of office for his biased comments on Muslims. Why don't we just start internment camps and put on the Muslims in there just as we did to the Japanese during WWII. Our society needs to become more accepting of differences because I feel were are going in an opposite direction and that scares the hell out of me

Freedom of religion. It is mostly for the ceremony and the book used is one that means something to them.
