If you have a good connection (DSL / Cable NOT dialup) it can be great.
The Pro's
- no travel time for anyone, you can get everyone together
- relaxed atmosphere
- Can access reference info as you need, don't have to remember to drag everything to the conference
- can meet in your jammies (if you are working from home)
- very fast to setup for impromptu meetings (like troubleshooting something)

the Cons
- usually takes a bunch of time to make sure everyone is setup and accessing everything.
- connection issues usually crop up and prevent people from seeing everything
- no direct feedback of a presentation (you cannot see if everyone is sleeping thru your talk)

Advantages are no travel costs and you don't have to have a special room or venue.

Disadvantages are you need the equipment which is an initial cost for all concerned (one off though). You don't have quite the same interaction even with video as you do when face to face. There may be security implications if the conference is confidential. Technical issues can screw up your conference also. Most of these are get overable, however I wouldn't use a video conference in some situations where time, privacy and the personal touch is of essence.
