It is cheaper to stay at home, but part of the learning experience of college is the social setting, and living "on your own"

It is completely up to you. You could stay at home first semester and move out second if you wanted. It is cheaper for sure to stay at home though.

Good Luck in school!

I think that a community college is a great way to get you feet wet so to speak. It should be your daughters decision first and foremost, but it sounds like she wants to go to community college as well, and her godmother needs to let her decide on her own as well. Most community colleges dont have dormitory or any student living facilities, if she went away should be paying for rent, groceries, utilities, etc... All of which would most likely be a lot higher than Room and Board at a traditional university. College, is of course very different from highschool your daughter might be better served to ease into the life, through community college, Thats my opinion though. I dont think anyone in this situation is wrong, except the godmother for doing more than offering an opinion. It should have been an opinion and dropped at that. Youre daughter sounds like a smart young lady, i think she will be able to decide.

sure it is cheaper if you live at home...and you will be able to have good food and all the benefits of living at home...but i say you should try the campus life for at least a semester..b/c you'll get to meet new friends and people...experience the college life of not having any rules..having some fun by going to parites and making your own choices..and if you don't like it in the end...then you'll at least have made friends from the dorm rooms...and if you decide to live bax at home..then you can always just visit them and hang out and it'll also be easier when you walk around on campus and know a few faces rather than just have aquaintances from class!

College costs BIG BUCKS these days. If you can live at home and do not have 'issues' there that hinder your progress in school, I think that might be the wisest choice for now. Why don't you try it for a year? You can always move on campus later if you feel you need to.

First off...as a graduating senior in college...I would say try to go out of state...the experience is great...But, if you do stay near home, just live at home and save the money, you'll go home all the time anyway.

It is cheaper to stay at home; and you have comfortable surroundings you know. I lived at home while attending school, and I was happy with that, compared to the others who never got away from school and lived in one or two rooms with other people.
It is more convenient to live on campus if you are involved in many activities, or if you just want to get away from home.

Make your decision after examining your financial situation - figure out how much debt you will accumulate in college, and then estimate the housing costs, student loans, interest rates, etc., that you will pay after you graduate. Student loans are great until you have to start paying them off - after you graduate you need to add the student loan payments to the rent, car payments, and other expenses, and this can be a real burden if you don't have a high-paying job.

Yes I think that everyone should experience campus life. It teaches you to be independent and responsible and not to say that the parties aren't awesome. It teaches you that the alarm clock is your life and it will be for the rest of your life as long as you're working. The clock is you mother...
