If you watch War of the Worlds it's best not to think whilst you are doing so. The story is a mess... why did the martians bury their war machines for so long? Why didn't humanity find one before?
The ending is awful, it seemed just tacked on to reasure a nervous American audience that everything will be fine and dandy after sept 11th. It could have been a great film.
Watch Dr Who this Christmas instead.
Happy Christmas

The musical version of War of the Worlds is really good and exciting.

I thought it was an excellent movie... Firstly, the original movie was a rehash totally of the original H G Wells story, which is more or less in the first person... Just like Spielberg has done, the ending abrupt, just like the book... Overall, a well directed and updated classic Sci-Fi story, yes it dealt with his children instead of his trek across England to find his love like the book but this is modern update of an emotional situation... Why is everyone such a critic these days?.. Every movie gets dissed without any thought actually going into the criticism... The only movie i will criticize really badly in a negative way over the last few years is King Kong and even there i try and find merits (although im scraping the barrell)... Try sitting back and watching a movie for its direction, storyline and acting instead of making a comparison to this, that and the other...

War Of The Worlds has good moments.
The CGI is excellent.
The first Tripod appearing through the street, the train rushing past on fire, the scene where the ferry gets over-turned - all superb.
It's typical Spielberg, and has a sugary ending, but it's a good film.

War of the Worlds??? It was more like Tom Cruise Vs. His Kids!!!

I sometimes wake up late at night in a cold sweat because I remembered that I paid $10 to see that steaming pile of cinema.

pretty good film. the ending was too abrupt though. great special effects and tom cruise is very good (no one likes him personally, but the guy does an ace job of acting most of the time)

check out talladega nights on dvd, hilarious

Yes, I thought it was really good, and I don't care for Tom Cruise! Don't let the little ones see it though,as it does have some hair raising parts!Enjoy!

I didn't like it at all. It wasn't as exciting as most Spielberg movies. Pretty boring.. don't bother. A good spielberg movie to watch I think is "Munich".. as a Christmas movie, though.. not so much.. err... "Catch Me if You Can".. yes that's a real good non-Christmas, Christmas movie. One of Spielberg's best.

After watching him in that movie, I would rather take a kick in the family jewels that suffer it again. Only thing he ever did worth spit was Interview with the vampire.

Saw it. It's OK, not for young children to watch though; there are some really heavey cary parts.

Try: Willow, Ice Age, Madagascar.

Wasn't bad but all the way through the film i just wanted to punch the hell out of his son and strangle his daughter to death.
