Why would it bother me if someone with me a Happy Chaunukkah?
The sentiment is for you to be merry and happy. They're not trying to convert you or anything. It's not insulting in the least. I would say Happy Chaunukkah right back even though I'm not Jewish.

How would you feel if someone told you Happy Chaunukkah or Merry Yule or Happy Kwanza? Wouldn't that bother you?
**I have no problem being greeted with any Holiday greeting. However, if I were to tell someone Merry Yule or Happy Winter Solstic I would be corrected by that person. Trust me, it happens all the time. So I've taken to just saying Happy Holiday. That way it covers them all. However, certain people can't be content with just saying Happy Holidays, they insist upon telling others Merry Christmas even though they know that a person does not celebrate Christmas.

It's all the same to me...
As the saying goes ---> it's the thought that counts
So what if it's the wrong one... A "Happy Chanakah" is just as good as a "Merry Christmas" which is good as a "Happy Kwanza" which is just as good as a "Happy Holidays" because the thought is the same.
Really now ---- does happy chanakuh convey anything different than merry christmas? Are the people less happy or merry? Nope...
How about we try Merry Chanakuh or Happy Christmas?
still..... no difference to me... the wish for a joyous holiday is still there

Some do, yeah. Years ago, I said Merry Christmas to a customer and she totally melted down because she was a Jehovah's Witness.
The polite thing to do is to smile and accept the greeting. Period.
And I don't know what death_after_midnight's issue is, I wouldn't get offended if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanzah. I'd just smile and wish them a Merry Christmas.

People have become arrogant and intolerant of others feelings and traditions. This equates to ignorance! I agree that I have never once been offended by others sharing a cultural or religious greeting or exchange. In fact I am glad to see it. But DO NOT
try to tell me that I offend you with my Merry Christmas greetings to another person of my beliefs and traditions! I have no use for ignorant people! Besides "Happy Holidays' is just plain boring!

Personally, it won't offend me and I would respond by saying "And a Happy Hanukah to you", which usually gets a very puzzled reaction from them. Also, most people where I live simply say "Happy Holidays" because one does not know if others celebrate Christmas or not, so best to stay neutral and say "Happy Holidays". Is it politically incorrect, yes, but you need to keep in mind that not everyone celebrates Christmas and obviously approaching a Jewish Orthodox person or a Muslim and wishing them a "Merry Christmas" will result in a very unfavorable or hostile response.

No, I don't get offended.
As an adult, I realize that everyone on earth doesn't know my Religious preference nor do they care. If someone takes the time to wish me a "Merry Christmas" I feel grateful for the good will and wish them the same.
What's the point of arguing about it?!? Kindness and good will are in such short supply these days! I'm happy to take what I can get.....

If people do get upset, then they just need to brush it off, because it has always been Merry Christmas, and always will be.
No matter where I am, I always say Merry Christmas. Also, I don't get upset if they say something else either. I say what I want to say, they say what they want to say.

I'm so effing sick of all the PC in every day life. Hats off to Wal-Mart, Target, and Macy's for bringing back "Merry Christmas" to their TV commercials. If someone gets offended from someone saying "Merry Christmas" to them, then I say "KISS MY @$$!"
PS. Merry Christmas, everyone. :)

I have not heard one person who does not celebrate Chrsitmas be offended by the phrase. On the contrary, I live in an area that has a large Jewish population and many have said they have no problem at all with it. When did we all get so hyper-sensitive about this stuff anyway?
