“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

Why would anyone choose to use numbnutz Hermann Goring as a "source" of enlightenment? Do you think he was at the trials as an expert consultant?
"All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked."
Are you serious? WE WERE ATTACKED - I watched the attack on the television and then I personally went to NY and viewed the devastation.
Do not confuse "patriotism" or "humanity" with self preservation and defense of ones way of life.

That's a very loaded question! I have not thought of that way. What do the big thinkers say about the right thing to do?

To answer your question, I would say, it all depends on the percentage of people who are deprived of the truth, the whole truth, by its government and the media.

Now that you, John Doe, and I are all Time magazine's Man of the Year, we will, as you are doing by raising this question, have a role in conditioning ourselves and our surroundings with the truth as we see it in the new media (Internet).

Hopefully as many as those who put rational thought ahead of altruism.

People beseeching the 'humanity' of others is looking for a handout.
