I think the fact that this is being discussed and defended so heavily is wrong. If they want beauty pageants, let them have them. I live in West Virginia and didn't have a single black person at my high school. When we had local beauty pageants, do you think any black girls were in those? No. So was that unfair? Not really, becaue they could have entered if they had wanted to. Years ago, however, they couldn't. So they're just making up for lost time.
What I'm getting at, is why is this still an issue? If I wanted to hold a beauty pageant for only blonde girls with big boobs I could and nobody would say anything (oh wait, that's already been done). Get over it and let everyone do their own thing. They're just celebrating their race.

It's not right...we should all be looked at as equal...whites would be discriminating if their was just a "white" pageant. And African american's would think white's are NUTS wanting to be in the african american's pageant.
"You Must Not Know 'Bout Me!!" I understand that you have your feelings on slavery I understand complelty but The question is ... why is it okay that they can only have African american's in their pageant and not be called discriminating against? Is it right to be still discriminating towards whites now a day's? White's can't go around saying their being discriminatined by African american's ...we all need to be just looked at as equals. It still doesn't make it right on either parties...African American's, Whites, mexican, ect...
Life is not fair I guess.....

I'm white but I think I would be offended if they had a whites only beauty pagaent. Why? Because it doesn't differentiate me from Irish, German, Swedish etc. I'm Greek, so, I'd rather have like a Greek-American beauty pageant or something. I think that maybe African Americans should be offended also. This tends to lump all African Americans into one category. Maybe they should do different African country pageants. After all, they aren't all the same either.
Of course, this whole idea discrimminates against people who are mixed, so maybe they should stop.

Beauty pageants in and of itself is already discriminating. I mean, you know happened to Vanessa Williams when she was in the beauty pageant, and just last week or so, a white (Blonde chic) confessed to being a drunk and a black girl was the runner up, but instead of giving the white girl the Heave-ho like they did Vanessa, Donald Trump vouched for the drunk and now another Blonde wins. Yeah, I say keep the African American funds coming...

Sweetie you all have EVERYTHING! Please stop b!+ching and complaining about what black people have! If you're not complaining about blacks, you're complaining about Hispanics or Asians or any class of people who you think doesn't meet up to your standards. Sh!t you do have Miss USA who just got through crying all over the damn TV because she was out there acting like a stupid Ho from Kentucky with some under age oh wow.......another little white girl who won a beauty pageant. You got Miss Universe and Miss America! So what was your point for bringing up this dumb
sh!t? You want everything! Well sweetie we're in a new millennium! There are more minorities now then white people! Sit back, Relax and just try to live your life on a happy note without getting all hung up into the politics of things. Remember, tomorrow is not promised to anyone. You don't know and even I don't know if we'll wake up the next day. Stop worrying about sh!t you can't control and go to a party, have some fun, get with friends and go to a movie preferably a comedy so you can laugh. Stop the madness!

trust me whites are doing that right now. come on now let's be real, how many blacks do you see in any of those almost all white girl pageants. It is a shame that blacks have to have their own tv networks like upn and bet. if it were not for those stations how many black shows would you see on t.v.? probably none. It's fair to say that almost everything in advertisment, on the news, in the papers, on tv, and in everyday real life is geared towards white america. UNLESS OFCOURSE IT IS NEGATIVE
Just take a minute to look at all of the pageants in the last 10 years. lets just say if there are 52 girls in each pageant, there will only be 2 maybe three blacks in the pageant, it is really as if the black girls aren't pretty enough or white enough to be in those pageants. I DON'T LIKE IT, AND I DON'T THINK IT IS FAIR. those pageants only show white america's standards of what beauty is supposed to be.

Most pageants are all white people. It is not because they only limit it to white people it is because not many black people do pageants and when they do them, they feel it is unfair because mostly white people win. In addition, they do not have African American pageants because white people have their own pageants; they have them to show pride for their color skin. It is just like having Miss Latina or Miss Native American or Miss Asian. We are just the minority and we want to see more of our kind participating in pageants.

In my opinion as a African American woman i think its because many girls dont have a chance or dont have opportunities to be in a regular beauty pageant so they make one for that certain group of people...and this is done everywhere not just for African American woman i have seen it done for many other races also....

I think that it is still held againt us that our great great great grandfathers had slaves. that was a while back and it not practiced for the most part today. get over yourselves. people pf color should not get any special treatment for that reason. why do you get special college funds and your own usa pageant? i think it is wrong and it further leads to segregation. no matter what your color you should work for that college education. you should not be handed things becuase you think it is owed to you. get off your butt and put an end to the way you are percieved.
