All the blue states already have a state minimum wage that is higher than the proposed federal minimum wage. No job losses in those states and the in the last 6 years the cost of living has doubled because of the increase in the price of gas.
I see no issue with Bush's proposal to give tax cuts to small businesses in the same bill to raise the minimum wage.
You and all like you that are against raisiing the minimum wage should refuse pay increases for the rest of your lives because those pay raises raise the cost of living 1000 times more than raising the minimum wage every 10 years.

I think that's all a bunch of crap.
The only people who may not be able to afford an increase are the smaller, family run stores. Perhaps there should be a loophole for them, if there is not already. But I'm sorry, the WalMarts of the world won't be suffering.
It's the same excuse that buisinesses use for outsourcing everything to other countries and taking jobs out of America in the first place.
Perhaps these businesses should quit whining and allow their profits to decrease slightly.
Sway26, just so you know, I have a good friend with a master's in buisiness management who is currently a shift coordinator at McDonald's because there's not a lot available in her field. Having the skills doesn't magically get you a good job.

Your obviously not a business owner. I say that because it appears you know nothing about business. Most businesses already pay more than minimum wage. Even the minister that had weekly conference calls with President Bush paid his gay prostitute more than minimum wage.
Bush is running a record deficit and he has no idea how to run the finances of this country. Pull your head out.

Minimum wage...$25.00 an hour...No income tax under $200,000a year....... Let the government earn enough to pay it's own salaries, as much as they can afford, import everything from China, all of a sudden everyone can afford everything, except for the thousands of "middle men" who would no longer be required to keep the wages so low, in order to provide a position that they can call "a job" etc...etc....( the poor numbers are certainly gonna increase)

Repubs always put out this crap whenever there's anything that improves the common good.
Pollution laws were going to close businesess. Safety regs would be the end of the auto industry, or make cars sooooo expensive no one could buy them.
And we've heard the same exact thing whenever the minimum wage has been passed.
But guess what. None of those things happened..
And it won't happen this time either,

Companies will be allowed to pay the illegals turned legal a lower wage than minimum thus encouraging more immigration and further lowering of the living standard of the lower and middle class Americans. By the way that is a Bush / Liberal thing. It will be a way to encourage more business's to hire the aliens during their period of partial citizenship.

If any moron believes that a business is going to hire more employees than they actually need, then you'll fall for this argument. Increasing minimum wage will not make a difference, just another conservative scare tactic.

You are correct that the minimum wage will
(1) increase the costs of goods and services, and
(2) increase unemployment among the least skilled and educated.
It will also accomplish two other things:
(1) give a little more income to teenagers, who comprise a large chunk of those who earn minimum wage (usually while earning tips too),
(2) give unions an excuse to raise the amount they extract from workers in dues.
And hence the real reason for the minimum wage: it benefits unions.
______________
According to the Heritage Foundation:
Liberal myth : The U.S. should increase the minimum wage to help poor workers.
The facts : Minimum wages are a price control that causes higher unemployment among less skilled, workers.
Helping students, not the poor
-- Few minimum wage workers support families on their own.
-- Among workers making the minimum wage and just above it,
-- Over half were teenagers or adults under 25 years old
-- A third were enrolled in school;
-- More than half were voluntary part-time workers;
-- Only seven percent were heads of poor families.
Their average family income is $45,200 .
Discouraging employment
Minimum wages harm those they are supposed to help since they:
-- Artificially increase the cost of unskilled labor
-- Encourage employers to minimize their demand for low-wage employees, either by using more machines or by changing the way that they offer services.
-- Creates a surplus of unemployed unskilled workers, further depressing bargaining power.
-- Draw young students away from school, and into the labor market prematurely. This causes teenage unemployment to rise.

If the minimum wage had been raised GRADUALLY, then we wouldn't even have noticed. Now we are going to pay the price. Keep in mind, that the senate and house have been GRADUALLY raising their salaries...

Ever see that commercial with Jessica Simpson where she is playing a waitress and asks her customers whether or not they want to view her on Direct TV with some kind of enhanced viewing capabilities and her response is "I totally don't know what that is, but I want it".
That is kinda like what you are talking about here. The Democrats and Liberals don't have a clue what raising the minmum wage would mean, but they want it.
Think about this question the next time you see that commercial.
Better yet... Here is a link to the commercial..
