For example, if there's another explosion in Iraq that kills scores of innocent women and children that is being shown, why doesn't the newsreader ever hang his head in shame, and say, "Oh my God, why did I ever vote for that idiot, Bush? I am so sorry viewers."
Is it pride?

The basic tenet of British justice is that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Alot of current news involves crimes which in turn involves trials for those who committed them. Newsreaders, therefore, cannot show emotion when reporting on these events in case they bias viewers against anyone accused of them. That is certainly one reason anyway. The other again is professionalism. If you want newsreaders showing emotion, and therefore personal opinion and bias, then you should watch American news shows like Good Morning America; they revel in it. But I think such bias just degrades the art of journalism, and distracts away from the news itself

i understand how you feel regarding this matter.
i do know that when a clergyman is taking the service of a funeral of someone like a child or a person he knew well we don't often see the minister or priest cry. the reason they do this is because they are there to lead to guide to report and to comfort. i know that the clergymen have ways of keeping from breaking down one of which is to not look at the coffin. we need the ministers to lead us to hold this service together and not just weep at the sadness.
i believe that the same goes for the news reporters when i think about it they are really for the most part conducting a funeral service on there own many times each night . if the reporter did not distance himself from the stories it would be only a very short time before they would not be able to cope and would leave.
i don't blame them for doing this as it is something although sad that they must do.
reporters do react to the upbeat stories the funny ones and the silly ones this is where they allow themselves to react to the words they are reading .
i have to consider that some of the reporters have become numb to all of this madness they read us each night as well as the possible cause of there lack of expression but i hope that is not the case .

newsreaders are watched by millions of people at any one time and everyone differs in their opinion so they have to be neutral and keep their emotions to themselves. Also it is not their fault and they are not there to change people's opinion or challenge them, they are there to tell the news as it is or as required by their bosses. Thirdly who cares about their opinion, people want news from them so we know what's going on,if they started having their own emotions in it then the news is not neutral is it?

Desensitizing the news. There's plenty of studies on the subject. We tend to view or read about horrible world events with detached emotions as though we were reading or watching fiction. It's an incredible human emotion and it's worth thousands of pages of research to get to the crux of the matter.

Yes you right I would like them to cry every time they report about a massacre in Iraq, a car accident that killed a baby, an old woman agressed and raped in the Street, it would be so much fun.

People working in the news media must remain objective and not get emotionally involved in the events which they are covering and reporting.

No, they don't want to seem biased. If they showed emotion that was thought by some to be biased, they would get loads of complaints. And, its not there job to give their opinion, they are just there to inform the public.
