Of course they would. The Republicans use Christians they have no respect for them. The only Christians that like Republicans are meth heads gay prostitutes and their customers.
It is impossible to be a Republican and be a good Christian. Good Christians don't kidnap, torture and kill people. If your a Christian and have not asked Jesus for forgiveness for voting for them or giving them support you are going to hell. No if's and's or but's.

So your question is if the fictional characters of Mary and Joseph lived today would they be hated by the extreme right wing? Probably yes, the extreme right wing hates everyone especially fictional characters that espouse helping the poor. That's socialism or communism or some other ism that they dislike but haven't got a clue what defines it. But the truth is there are no Christians, no Jews, no Muslims, no Buddhists or Hindus there is just humanity all the rest is just a bunch of stories designed to give meaning to existence when the only meaning that matters is you're here and as long as you are here try to live a good a life as you can without the hate that has created such chaos in our world. If you are rich be happy about it and stop trying to take everything from everyone else. Because it really doesn't matter how big your pile is when your times up all the money and the black market organs in the world won't save you.

Joe and Mary live down the road aways, and they appear to be pretty poor, however, I have my doubts that any Right-wingers have had the opportunity to show them any hate, because in this area, rich whites, wouldn't last long enough to get out of their Hummer, let alone say anything....

A church group might give them a spare FEMA trailer to live in until the census was complete. The typical right winger would ignore them as they ignore most of the poor.

No just the opposite, it would be the democrats that would tax Mary and Joesph into starvation and when Jesus was born the democrats would tax Him also. Taking care of the poor is all of our responsibility, not political party's.

Why would the right wing hate them because they were poor? Much time and money is donated to help those in need. Not like the democrats who prefer to force charity to provide for those who feel they are entitled to a living.

Poor, unemployed and homeless depending on others for their basic needs to survive. So yes some people would resent them not for being poor but maybe for not attempting to be self supporting.
