I have tried everything but its like christmas shouldnt belong a couple days away? I have baked cookies ,shopped and wraped presents, decorated, played christmas music, watched christmas movies, and decked out in christmas clothes but nothing seems to work? What gets you into the spirit? Does christmas feelout of place to you are you lacking the Christmas spirit?

For me, Christmas isn't the same any more. I have spent the last three years away from my family since they live in Nebraska and I live in California and I am a poor college student. Christmas just doesn't feel the way it did when I was a kid. I hate shopping, especially around Christmas and that gets me upset, irritated, and cranky. I have played Christmas music and it helps sometimes, but more of the time it just makes me sad. One thing I do want to do is get some Starbucks and go Christmas Light veiwing on Christmas Eve. I am at the ackward age where I am not a child anymore amd yet I don't have any children of my own. I just can't wait until it is over.

My dear, Christmas time is for celebrating the birth of Christ, if you are a religious person (and you don't have to be), and feel the need to have the spirit in you for Christmas, go to a church, or even a chapel in a hospital and sit there and reflect on your life and ask God to help you feel the special spirit of His Son and once you do that and make peace with all you did or are about to do, I am sure you will then feel the spirit. It is not about presents, it's about our Lord and Savior. Let me tell you a story about a boy who didn't believe in God. Bad things were always happening to him, always getting in trouble, thought we were put here by an asteroid and cursed HIM all the time. That boy became a man, moved to California and now reads the bible, goes to church(and it isn't a Catholic church, it is Christian) and I asked him one day if his life got better since, he replied "YES". He is my 22 yr old son and he found a girl and is getting married, has a good job and is going to Japan Christmas morning. If something goes wrong, I know he will be alright, he has made peace with Christ. So try and do what I said and you will feel it!

This is going to sound manipulative, and I really don't mean for it to be...I'm serious, this will help you.

To truly get in the Christmas spirit, go out and for like an hour; buy toys for a Toys for Tots drop box, put money in every Salvation Army kettle, adopt an Angel Tree angel, give a homeless person cash, etc. It's a total rush and it's the real spirit of Christmas. You may have donated already, passively, but get out there and make it an active process.

Also, tell strangers Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays with a big smile! You'll make their day and you will get a real spurt of Christmas spirit.

Try these things, seriously, they will help you. And others.

i too lacked the christmas spirit. NOt so much though, i still put up decorations :). Yet when christmas eve came, i didn't feel the joy. I just wanted to get out of that party asap. I was once joyfull about this season, but now, i don't see the use of presents or family gatherings. One more thing, i admire your concern towards other people. Maybe, hopefully, that's what bumbed me out this year. Thx.

I'm lacking the Christamas spirit too, because I've been way too busy working away all my time, or because our weather is mild- which I won't complain about. The only thing that started getting me in the holiday spirit is visiting with people, & exchanging gifts early (at work) with one or two people already, playing my favorite Christmas CD (It's a Punk Rock Christmas), watching Christmas movies, & even the simple things like people being extra nice to each other or even complete strangers wishing you a Merry Christmas!

My husband and I being a newlywed couple will not be celebrating Christmas like we should. It doesn't mean I don'r appreciate Christmas or the holiday but I had lost a loved one 2 years ago and that was my mother. She died from ovarian cancer on November 5,2004.She was excited for the holidays but didn't get a chance to see it so, it is another year without my mother.Plus fiancial problems we have, earlier in the month,We had to use all of our Christmas Funds to make a repair to our vehicle which cost us more than our funds combined. It was leave it there and try to find ways to get to and from or pay for the repairs.
Although we got the rest of our family taken care of--to me it is important, It is going to feel weird knowing we will not be giving each other gifts and this is a way to remember your 1st Christmas being a married couple.
Plus,Temperatures in the 40's to me isn't Christmas weather..it is more like spring.Sometimes,I wish the middle of the year would be here.

Listening to Christmas music usually works for me. But this year it just hasn't. The weather here in New York is just not cold enough to feel like Christmas. I think the best thing to do is just be grateful for all of what transpired this year. I also try to drive around at night and check out the beautiful lights on all the houses. Hopefully if you do this while listening to Christmas music it will do the trick. Good luck!!

Even though this year our daughter is 3 and more aware of the christmas thing, my husband and i are severely lacking the spirit. I think i know why though.
I am on maternity leave, so those few days we get off for christmas is nothing to look forward to..
My husband got laid off a few months ago, and he also has nothing to look forward to regarding time off work.
I think that's why!
Luckily, we knew what was going to happen and started buying for christmas in APRIL!!!!! So the financial worry is not bothering us as much as it could....
Could also use some snow, that always puts me in the mood!!!!

I lost the christmas spirit for the years between being an child adn having a child. Not completely of course but life goes in stages.

If you have any little children in your life spoil them a bit it can make you feel better seeing the magic in their eyes

If you have a big hear and the opprotunity do some volunteer work that also is good for you and others.
