If everyone had to work for what they had, especially food and the basic necessities of life, maye more americans would be willing to do the jobs the illegal immigrant are taking? Why would it be so wrong if everyone had to work to support themselves? And if people went hungry then people went hungry. Too bad. Survival of the fittest...

Just to let everyone know.. I am a sinlge mother. I have been for the past 10 years. I work full time and just bought my own home and put my son through a private shcool so he has the values I was raised with. I work 3 jobs. 1 full and 2 part time to pay for it all. That's the values I was taught growing up.. it's called pride. Not ignorance.

I agree 100%. If people had to fend for themselves and their families, they would get off the couch and work. But as it is, you can claim you are disabled and get a check in the mail. If I can get up everyday and go to work, so can everyone else. I hate Welfare and I think it should be abolished immediately!

Somewhere along the way we became a nation of instant gratification. There is a "why work if you can get it free" mentality that has slowly dissolved the fiber of our society. I worked 2 jobs at 70 hours a week while in college.

well, i generally agree with your point. everyone has a responsibility (i believe) to improve oneself and, consequently, to improve society at large. that's what the purpose of life is...self-improvement. that's not to say anyone should sacrifice anything for the betterment of anyone else. that would be like saying someone you're sacrificing for is worth more than you, the person doing the sacrificing. quite the opposite- by improving yourself and by the betterment of your life, you improve your ability to better those around you. and the betterment of all, through the betterment of oneself (since you are really the only one you can control) should be ones focus and purpose in life. i think your approach leaves much to be desired, since you are not coming across as helpful or uplifting in the slightest. set an example rather than chastising people for their lack of ambition or depression. i think this is a concept that is not widely preached or believed. it needs to be. there is no poverty, only wealth or the lack of it. what does that mean? that there is always more to be had. and anyone can have it. people just need to go get it. and that, my friend, is hope.

Your attitude is far too idealistic not realistic. Survival of the fittest? Bet you'd change your tune if you ever found yourself in an extremely difficult financial situation with no income and the possiblity of no roof over your head or means to buy food or clothing and living on handouts.

I agree to a degree. To correct Army girl, disability money isn't a Wellfare program. It is a Social Security program. People receive from that, moneys they've already paid into the system.
At times, some are in need of assistance. There needs to be a limit though. Too many people are allowed to milk the system.

There are people who can not take care of themselves. They were never taught this. And it's not saying a lot about us as Americans to kick every person that is down. GEEEEEEZZZZZ.....
Ignorance can be generational.

I don't agree with that. Everyone SHOULD work to the best of their ability but should only be paid what they need. If someone doesn't work, their basic needs still must be met. They will just not have the satisfaction of contributing to their society and advancing the good of humankind.

Natural selection right? Only the strong shall survive. I agree that people shoudl be responsible for themselves, unfortunately our society has coddled those who choose not to succeed and it has gotten way out of hand. It would be a major undertaking to get people to realize they are responsible for themselves and for their own actions.

i 100% agree!
Unfortunately, there are poor, welfare minded, liberals out there who want the government to take care of them and pay for their stuff. It's a shame!
