Either way, it sounds like you're beautiful.
My family is Greek and you'd be surprised the differences in skin color. My mother is actually quite pale for a Greek woman and my dad is on the darker end. I take after my dad more, but my brothers are both lighter like my mom.

I'm 1st generation US born but my father and his family came here from a region of southern Italy. My mother's side is American , but of central European Jewish descent. And I tell you when you go over there, to Italy that is, ( I have not spent extensive time in central Europe), you will see native-born Italians in every region of Italy of all shades, complexions, hair colors, etc. Granted, in the far North of the country, you are far more likely to find a true "blonde and blue", so to speak, but I have been in Sicily, on the isle of Pantelleria (my uncle lives there now), and that isle is only a half hour boat ride from North Africa, and there you can see native-born Italians / Sicilians who you would not be able to instantly "label" as being Italian. They could "look" French, Greek, Balkan. Certainly there are some who bear the more "stereotypical look" down there as well, almost resembling more Arab than Italian really, but trust me it's not all. When your parents mixed to make you, you got mixture of both of their genes; that's the beauty of Life. Whether you "self-identify" as black or Italian is up to you, but you are as unique as your own fingerprint; so be proud of it.

Maybe your skin tone and hair resemble other ethnicities? My friends baby looks like she could be a hispanic baby... my friend is White and her husband is 3/4 Black and 1/4 Dominican ( sounds so technical huh?).

well if your skin has an olive tone to it then it would make you look Italian..also if you have dark eyes and hair. I would take this as a compliment..Italians and Spaniards are stunning!

Does it really matter? Everyone is in such a fuss over being identified as a certain ethnicity, or failing to be identified as the correct ethnicity.

You may have some South-European blood. Or you may have some characteristics similar to an Italian.
Italian women tend to be large-busted, generally curvy in shape and tend to have heavier moustache growth than is normal for women in most countries.
