There is an excellent overnight bus, and it is easier than going to the railway station - the trains can be anything up to 2/3 hours late on a good day

If you go by coach make sure you book a sleeper - these seats go flat out and are far more comfortable than our coaches for long journeys as you can put the seat flat, sit with your back against the back rest and just watch the world go by. If you prefer it there are overhead beds - they-remind me of coffins, you can't si t up properly in them but friends assure me they are comforable, personally I think they are a bit claustrophobic.

The disadvantage is that there aren't any toilets on board. There is one stop for food en route and other than that you just ask the driver to pull up and you hope there is an accommodating tree, although most of your journey is in pitch black it doesn't matter very much.

Also there isn't a railway station in Hampi, you have to get a taxi/tut-tut from Hospit - about 30 mins away, however the bus does go to Hampi

Hope you enjoy Hampi as much as we do
