How about Houston Wire & Cable (HWCC)? Really good earnings, really good prospects. The chart is jagged but definitely trending up except in recent weeks. It may not be the "best" but probably ought to be in the hunt.

Let's hope that you're diversified among a number of stocks, but you'd like one star next year. Exxon was up about 33% this year, and it pays a dividend, too. I look at all those SUVs on the road and think, someone's going to make money off them, might as well be me.
You can also buy Exxon directly from the company. It's a $250 minimum or you can enroll automatically with just $50 to start, but after that you can send them $50 whenever you want and buy partial shares, and they reinvest the dividends, too, so your money really works for you. The best part? No fees to buy shares or to start the plan or to keep it going!!

Just buy an index fund like SPY or VFINX. Buy the entire SP rather than an individual stock. Remember indexes don't go down to zero but individual stock can and sometimes do.

A balance... mutual funds, index funds, and secured Tbills. But the absolute best stock is in your education by reading and watching financial news shows but also by pursuing a degree in whatever you are interested in. You'll get sweet tax credits and a nice return on investment in the years ahead.

Technology stocks, of course, which one, that's the question. It's not going to be like the late 90s internet boom, but web site technology stocks should soar. Which ones? Wish I knew.
