Do you think Marain Luther King Day is racist?

I think Martain Luther King Day excludes white people from a day of fun and festivitys and i think it should be canceled do you agree? Also I want to know why we dont have a White History Month or Chinese History Month why do we always have to celebrate a month for black people I already learned enough about their culture at KFC. Please give me feedback.

Martin Luther King, Jr. is the only American to have his own "day." Even Washington and Lincoln no longer have their own celebrated holiday, now it is just called "President's Day."
Martin Luther King did a lot of good by leading the American public in a path toward racial equality. But no, I don't think there should be a holiday in his honor.

First, no, I don't think it is racist. It's a celebration of a man who was trying to solve social injustice problems. That's always something to celebrate.

Second, the typical argument for not having "White History Month" is that there are 11 of them. History is written by the victors, and even in an unspoken conflict like the struggle of the different races against each other, that's true. Ergo, most history is written from a European-American point of view. Black History Month is a time to look at things from another point of view, which is something that everyone needs to do (probably more often that 28 days out of the year, too). And it's also a time for black Americans to show off their heritage and culture and be proud of it.

Third, I would be in full support of other "history" months, as it would be a wonderful time to learn about some of the other cultures that have made this country great. Every culture has helped make this country what it is today, and as I said before, it's always good to look at things from another point of view.

Fourth, your racist comments about KFC are uncalled for and simply show the lack of intelligence with which the last part of this question was scripted.

No; it isn't racist because Martin Luther King was far from being a racist. It should be a day of fun and festivities for everyone, if you refuse to celebrate human culture , well thats on you. Who is stopping you from joining in the fun? Also, I agree on the Chinese month thing and other cultures but in all do respect , here in America, Blacks have literally been anally raped, beaten, and whipped to sweat and tears to make this country what is today, and a simple month of thanks is minimal. Everyday belongs to the whites even during Black history month so do not cry...the world is still yours sweetie.

Martin Luther King doesn't exclude races at all. If you WEREN'T a racist, you would join African Americans in the festivities. I don't think it should be canceled. We have presidents day, and all these other days to symbolize people and Martin Luther King day is not just a day for him it is a day for ALL African American people. And due to your IGNORANCE you don't even know that there is a CHINESE heritage month, HISPANIC heritage month, FRENCH heritage month and as far as I am concerned, white people celebrate themselves EVERYDAY. First of all I think you should head to your nearest library and do some heavy reading. Second, black history month is not only the shortest month of the year but it's the only time you really get to learn in depth about african american culture and history. Regular everyday history teaches us nothing but that blacks were slaves. Martin Luther King was not just for black people he was for all people. As far as the KFC comment it's not worth a response.

W.C. I surprised how little you know about Dr. King. For me Martin Luther King day is not exclusively for Afro-Americans. I'm coucasion and I celebrate that day because of the admiration I have for Dr.King. Individual people turn it into black, white thing, and by doing so they desacrate the enitire meaning of what Dr. King set to acomplish in all his and the others that supported him and the cause. It seems to me every good cause always ends up takeing a different direction from what intint started out as.The theam of his actions were to BRING TOGETHER, not seperate further.Do you have any idea how much everybody is affected by CIVIL RIGHTS. His efforts was not exclusively for the black man only. These rights effect every hard working person inthe USA. When that day comes around again stop and think had it not been for the sacrafice of what these people sacraficed that participated in this effort how some backward thinking redneck could destroy you because you don't think and look like them.

That's funny. I'm white, and I still get Martin Luther King Day off. You must have a really cruddy boss, or else you are really ignorant. I highly recommend some professional help and some education. Besides, we have President's Day, a day to commemorate all 43 Presidents... NONE of whom have ever been a minority. We also have Columbus Day, a day to celebrate a white man who came to the New World and murdered thousands of native americans. I don't think we have much room
to complain on this one. It is not like we cannot celebrate the day, too. Maybe when we are enslaved by black people for hundreds of years, and then robbed of our rights for another hundred, we can make up a holiday. Fact is, even then we would not need to. First of all, it's Martin Luther King Day. 2nd of all how in the world could you even write this statement? There were a hell of a lot of Caucasians marching with Dr. King that day. You'd be surprise how many Caucasians were marching. Just because he himself was black does not exclude anyone else. First the day is not racist, it is to celebrate people coming together and making a brighter future. But it is a bad day. In all of history only 2 people are given their on day in America. 1. Christ, 2, Martin Luther King. With every great person in the history of the world, these are the two that we give the ultimate honor two and make a Holiday after them. All the presidents combined have a day, and this one man has one. That is not right.
The reason white people don't need a month, or a college, or any thing special for whites, is because it is silly. A black history month is silly. It separates people and drives a wedge where none is needed. We need to stop dividing people.

Obviously, you're clueless.

Black History month is there because of the way blacks were treated in the past, and still are treated today. Understand that whites were, and still are, the dominant race. You will see many whites being racist towards blacks, Asians, and so on; you will not see as many racists against whites, although they do exist, don't get me wrong.

MLK Day is a holiday where a big change was made in the country, where more blacks were influenced by a strong voice, inspiring them to stand up for themselves. Although there still isn't racial equality, it is much better than it was a couple of decades ago.

These two holidays exist because equal rights are needed for all races. Understand that. Hopefully you'll consider what I (and other open-minded people) are saying to you, and hopefully you'll be less stubborn about these two events.

Martin Luther King Day can be celebrated by anyone the purpose of it is for everyone to look pass peoples race and stereotypes and come together because we are all the same.
