Many people are going to say, watch the ball. If you're having some 12-6's thrown at you, no matter how hard you watch the ball it will move rapidly. Most people don't see the ball until it's about 10 feet away. Mostly, always stretch, practice hitting bottlecaps and small stuff (ie golf sized wiffle balls), be sure to follow through you don't want to just stop halfway into your swing and f*ck up a muscle. Also know your abilities, you can't hit a 5-run home run. Learn how to come out of the box, how to round first, second and, third. I usually practice like:
Stretching: 30 minutes before playing, always be well stretched
Practice rounding first: 20 minutes
Practice rounding second and third: 15 minutes each
Stealing on a righty from first: 15 minutes
Stealing on a lefty from first: 20 minutes
Stealing on a righty from second: 10 minutes
Stealing on a lefty from second: 15 minutes
ONCE YOU'VE MASTERED THE FIRST TWO STEALS THEN YOU CAN TRY HOME
Bunting: 10 minutes
Hitting off tee inside: 5 minutes
Hitting off tee middle: 5 minutes
Hitting off tee outside: 5 minutes
Batting Practice: 1 hour
You don't need to learn to steal but it really helps.

Think of your swing as a reverse mullet. Short in the back and long in the front.
During the swing take your hands to the ball and punch with your top hand, your swing path shoul dbe like chopping down a tree.
Let the ball get deep, towards your front hip-pecker. The closer the ball is to you when you hit it, the more power your will have, its like punching someone, the closer they are the more it will hurt. Shortest distance from point A (starting position) to point B (point of contact)!
Your chin starts on your front shoulder and needs to end on your back shoulder.
Squish the bug with your back foot, i.e. get good pop out of your back hip (this provides your power).
Lastly, quicker and shorter is better and get a bat with a weight that you can handle, heavier does not = better!
Bonds swings a 32" 31oz. bat and chokes up!

1. Practice! Practice! Practice! Go to batting cages and bat. The more pitches you see the balls you can recognize 2. Work on your swing. Know the fundamentals. Learn how to bunt-knees bent, top hand at the barrel and the lower hand beneath it; choking up-have your top hand above the grip of the bat. 3. Do not bench press! This messes up your swinging rotation, and it pumps out your chest which makes it hard to swing. 4. Buy the right equipment, not the cool stuff. Batting gloves, a cup, and possibly a helmet. No need for the arm braces or the shin guards.

Here's a tip on how to get better pitch recognition (Carlos Beltran did this I believe). Get a pitching machine that is able to throw very fast. Get a lot of tennis balls and draw numbers on them. The size of the # shouldn't be too small or it will be impossible to see. Get in the box but don't swing and have someone pitch the tennis balls to you using the machine at about 120+ mph and focus on what number is on that ball. You'll notice you'll be able to pick out pitches (curveball fastball, etc) a lot better and strike out much less.

A small, compact swing. It is a common misconception that swings are level. THey are actually more akin to chopping wood. In your load up be smooth and quite, then use your hips and back hand to explode to the ball. Do not "keep your elbow up". Follow through high.

Well, the most important, obviously, is to watch the ball...don't take your eye off of it.....keep your elbow up and follow through with your swing. Also, don't forget to pay attention to which pitches you hit best....the speed, the height, etc....and hit the ones you like, don't just swing at anything. Good luck.

widen ur stance, choke up on the bat, and study the picture before u get in the box to get ur timing down, and probably the most important would be patience and practice.
