If he was any good, your boss would have had your last check in his hand when he fired you. Call whoever does the payroll to 'check that your address is current' because you want to make sure there is not a delay getting your last check. I really don't think you'll have a problem. When an employer fires someone, they usually don't want them to have a reason to come back. I'm pretty sure you'll find your check in the mail. If you don't, call to find out where it is. If they don't have a good answer for you, most states have a labor board or something like that. Also, calling a lawyer may not be a bad idea--some states have extra penalties for not paying their employees--if you are in one of them, the penalty may cover the cost of the lawyer.

I don't know about labour laws in the States, but if you are in Canada I know them quite well. Your employer is obligated by law to issue you your pay for the period no later than five days after the cut-off for the pay period. Also your employer is not legally allowed to change your pay date without 3 months notice.
I would suggest talking to your boss and explaining the situation and that you dont believe he is even allowed to do this. Dont be threatining but voice your concerns. If he still will not issue you a check inform him that you are going to check with labour relations to see if this is a legal situation. You may be scared to go through this course of actions due to any reprecussions but fortunately if your boss was to fire you after this you would definately be able to sue him for wrongfull dissmissal.
Again i am not a hundred percent on laws in your country unless it is canada so i would advixe getting in touch with the labour board and asking them about the situation, and while you are there it wouldnt hurt to get a copy of the employment standards act. You should know your rights as an employee to prevent someone taking advantage of you.
Good Luck.

If your normal pay cycle is before January 3rd, I would contact your local department of labor as soon as possible. I would avoid the payday loan agencies. They are legal loan sharks. If you have a high interest credit card you're better off using it.
If your boss is holding up your pay, it's time to find another boss!

Try talking with your boss and make him see the reasons why you need money during this yelutide season. If he still doesn't budge, contact the payroll department to give you salary advance otherwise get small loans from the bank to cater for your expenses.

Is it due to you before 1/3/07? Or is that the normal pay period? If it is due to you sooner, then explain to him that you need your paycheck on time, please and thank you. Be polite. If he refuses, not much you can do at the moment, but I would look for a new job in the new year.
Check cashing/short term loan places are OK, but you will get dinked for a fee on that. And they will expect it on January 4th at the latest in return.

And why is he not paying you your salary?? If it's due on a specific date then he owes you money. Call the courts and check the legality of his actions. And get a better job, because any boss who does that is an @sshole.

That's really crummy. Wonder if he is not going to pay himself until then. Sheesh. No solution for you, but try and have a happy holiday anyway. Perhaps using a charge card?

He is probably trying to wait until the start of the new year for tax reasons, or else he is keeping the money for his own family, which is not right! Sounds like you work for a real thoughtful guy!

It is illegal for a business to not pay you on or before your scheduled pay date. Call your local better business bureau or law enforcement agency.
