No.
Not in most cases. Although an epidural does have more tendancy to have complications in labor. It lessens the intensity of your contractions, it doesnt inhibit your ability to push.
Because you get it before a certain point in your labor, theres always a chance that it could take you too long to finish dialating and the baby to drop so you can push, and if the baby shows signs of distress they will have to do a c-section.
They also make it harder on your body, because your contractions lose their effectiveness, and because you're forced to lay on your back in a very unnatural birthing position, it means your body has to work harder than ever, AGAINST gravity, to birth the baby. This also in turn causes more stress on the baby.
Theres also an increased risk of spinal damage from the procedure.
But, women have them every day, and they all survive.
Spinal morphines allow you to get up and walk, take the pain out of the contractions, and are less stressful on all envolved. You might consider that instead.

Absolutely not. A lot of people (who have never had one) believe that an epidural "knocks" you out so you can't even realize what's going on. The truth is it only numbs you from stomach or waist down but sometimes the epidurals only work on one side so you can still feel some pain. There is lots of pressure down below so you can still feel that, the only thing you can't feel is the contractions but that's what the nurses and doctor are for. When ever the monitor shows you are having a contraction and it's time to push they tell you. Epidural never leads you to have a c-section. The only time you'll need a c-section is if something goes wrong like the baby's heart beat is irregular or if the mother has high blood pressure or if simply the baby is too large to have vaginally. Lots of women have epidurals, it helped tremendously with the pain and gives the mother a chance to relax and get some rest before it's time to push.

No...most c-sections are not done for this reason. If the epidural is not placed correctly, you can lose too much sensation and it can interfere with pushing, but this is rare. Usually the woman is able to push and feel the pressure of the baby bearing down.

No, I had to be induced, and so that made my contractions worser than normal, so I had to have an epidural at 3 centimeters. Then it was wearing off when I got to 8 centimeters, so they had to give me some more, and 30 minutes afterwards I was ready to push. I pushed her out 20 minutes after they told me I could push with no tears, or anything. I still felt when she was bearing down, and if you happen to be one of the many who can't feel the contractions, they monitor them anyway, so they tell you when to push.so that is not true at all...

I had an epidural and had my son natural. I didn't have a hard time pushing at all.

I've heard of it being true because epi's can slow down dialation.
I had an epi with my son and had a quick and easy birth. I still felt the urge to push even though I was numb.
I got an epi with my daughter but I dialated so fast while they were putting it in, I ended up pushing her out 10 min after I got it, so I felt everything.

It is possible, but I've had three epidurals, and I've pushed three babies. I don't think I could have done it without the epidural.

Yes but its not that common. They will usually allow you to keep trying until baby shows signs of stress.
