It's true that if you're at the equator, the earth spins at 1,000 mph. So if you were on a plane travelling at 1,000 mph time would appear to stand still. However, the further towards the poles you travel, the slower the relative speed. So if for example you live at around 54 degrees north like me in the north of england, then the rate of spin would be more like 600mph. If you were at the north pole it would be practically zero, but u'd just get spun round more. I suppose the further towards the poles you are the more seceptable you would be to dizziness although i'd expect not enough to really notice. Also this is why the direction which the water swirls down a plug hole is is more evident the closer to the poles you are.

As for the earth orbiting the sun, the figures quoted by the others above are of course average figures. The earth actually orbits the sun in an elipse and is at it slowest speed right NOW at the winter solstice. Also the earth is the closest it ever is to the sun at this time of year. At least it was yesterday anyway!

Don't forget that the rotational speed of the Earth in mph is dependent on the distance from the axis of spinning- near the north and south poles the speed of spin is near zero. It is better to talk in revolutions, ie the Earth spins one rev per day so at the equator it spins at (Pi times d) miles per day, where d is the Earth's diameter.
