"IT'S 1938," said former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "and Iran is Germany, racing to arm itself with atomic bombs."

They use the same propaganda techniques that the Nazis used, same caricatures, and cartoons for the kids.
They say the same things about the Jews.
They use a Nazi arm greeting.
They openly promise the destruction of Israel, and eventually the West.
They use "Islam will dominate the world" A LOT.

So, I don't know, is it 1938 and Iran is Germany? What do you think?

The question is clear enough but I cannot fit it into your comments about the Israeli press. Israel is a very insecure country and above all they try to protect their interests above all. Their lobbying efforts have served them well especially in the US. Many Mideast countries or groups call for the annihilation of Israel. I think it is mere propaganda to increase the insecurity of Israel. Comparing Germany with Iran is natural as anyone who is considered the evil one will be compared with Germany who is considered the evil. I know Hitler tried to eliminate all Jews because he considered Aryans the master race. The problem here is the Germans of Hitler were not the only evil. Considering how many Stalin killed and how many the Japanese massacred, Hitler looks like a piker. The real Aryans are the Persians, that is Iranians. This is also another link to the Germans but I have not heard Ahmandijad say Iranians are a master race.

The difference is that Germany had a very strong army and quickly overran its neighbors. Now, Iran would have to go through Iraq, and either Syria or Jordan (clearly the choice is Syria) on the ground. Then again, Iran needs to recall what happened to Egypt, Syria and others the last time Israel was ganged up on (read - Yom Kippur War and Six Day War).

Even if Iran gets a bomb (which needs to be stopped), you have to remember Israel has it's own nuclear capability already.

So I think his comments are baseless.

Although the comparison is fair,I think luckily the situation is less troublesome. Not because Iran is any better than Nazi Germany but because I believe the free world is more alert now than it was in 1938.
A lot of people underestimated the danger of Hitler, even praised him for rebuilding Germany and his "fresh" approach including in the US.
Although the danger of underestimating Iran is possible,I don't think it's happening on the same scale.

I would have to say, no. Germany didn't even think of the "bomb" in 1938. They were preparing to plow over Europe - starting with Poland.

Iran is not thinking anything about that - they are just thinking about becoming a nuclear power, and then wiping out Israel. It sucks to be a jew right now!

This statement is fallacious in nature and the comparison undeserved. From a political science perspective, the institutions in place in Iran are complex and have significant checks-and-balances preventing an out-of-control descent in to the type of totalitarian militarism that enveloped Nazi Germany. Learn about the Iranian government and you will find that the "Transaction costs" (amount of effort, time and debate it takes to pass a law successfully and amount of laws that fail to pass) are quite high and thus for Iran to spiral into a situation like Nazi Germany would be unlikely given the current situation.

HOWEVER, Mr. Netanyahu does have reason to make such statements since he is aligned with the far-right (much as the Nazis were far-right) in Israel and such rhetoric will help him advance his pro-war agenda.

Germany had a huge army and a strong military compared to its neighbours.Even a nuclear Iran will be powerless when faced with the nuclear arsenal of Israel.
