With the leadership of congress in new hands now and the prospect of a Hillary presidency on the horizion, will socalized medicne soon follow? Would this be a better system than we have right now?

It hasn't hurt Canada. It would rid us of our tendency to sue doctors randomly, and so their insurance would go down. There are good and bad points to it...And Hi back, Bill G.

Poor Devan she is such a neophyte I have lived in countries with socialize medicine so I have some experience here are some of the pros
1. everyone can see the doctor
2. unexpected high medical procedures will not bankrupt you
3. preventative medicine should be easier.
The cons
1. High taxes
2. Extremely long waits for any medical procedure
3. will create a 2 tier system (those who can afford it will have private care, best doctors, best facilities, best treatment the poorest doctors will be government doctors because they will be paid the least and you will not be able to sue them for screw-ups)
4. There will be a lot of waste and corruption just look at medicaid and medicare and imagine that 100 times more inefficient.
5. There will be no incentive to be efficient or innovative (name me a government institution that is not way behind private sector)
A lot of people says that socialize medicine will be great, be careful what you wish for?

I don't think so. In a country where freedom is generally embraced, socialized medicine would put a LOT of government regulation into citizens' everyday lives. In other countries where a socialized medicine system has occurred, you are stuck with whatever doctor serves your general area. They usually have no choice and because of that often get bad medical treatment with long waits.

It won't happen because Americans won't vote for it.
They won't because they see the failing public health systems in Canada and Europe.
I lived in Canada until the age of 29. If you like waiting 6 months for an MRI, 50 days for a bypass surgery, 22 weeks for cancer treatment, be my guest.
The only people in the US who would benefit from the Canadian system are those who currently have nothing. Although a lot of people, they are a minority.
Oh yeah by the way cough up 57% of your paycheck to pay for it.

I hope it happens in this country.
And I don't know why people are against it. It's worked for most of the rest of the world.
I think the only people who are against it are the ones who:
1) are one of the lucky ones who have good healthcare coverage offered by their jobs
2) are rich
3) are just ignorant
I think a socialized healthcare system is just what this country needs. Most of the bankruptcies in this country are caused by medical bills. Our country is #16 in infant mortality rates because expectant mothers can't afford prenatal healthcare, and most of the time they can't get state help until AFTER they have given birth.
Wake up, people. Healthcare in the US STINKS.

No, it would be worse. We do need more preventive medicine to keep us from ever getting ill.

No. It does not work. Costs too much. What we need is free markets and decreased regulation. The same and only thing that always works.
