Several of the posts above are correct, but I have a few tips that might make it easier for you.

You will need an acetone solution to remove your acrylic nails because the acetone helps break down the glue that affixes them to your real nails.

What I do first is to put some vaseline/first aid ointment or other oily savve on my fingers before soaking my nails. The acetone is really strong and it's rough on your skin. Using something oily (as opposed to lotion) will act like waterproofing on your skin, but still work it's magic on your nails.

Secondly, pour the acetone (I just buy a bottle from Target in the section with polish remover... make sure it says "with acetone") into a shalloy bowl, and rest my hands inside. Try not to take your fingers out often, because it dries very quickly and wont work as well. After resting your nails for 5 min. or so, test one by pulling on the side of the nail where it meets your skin. This should be the weakest point. If it doesn't seem loose, soak some more. Don't worry if the acrylic nails get gummy... that's normal.

If you are unable to loosen the nails after saoking several times, you have a few options. I have heard that by prying a nail file or other hard, thin item between the fake nail and your real nail, you can "pop" off the acrylic. I haven't had to try this, but it may be helpful. Lastly, any salon that applies artificial nails will have a service in which they remove the nails for you, but it may cost some money. As a last resort, it's a good alternative.

Whatever your method, make sure you slather on the lotion afterward. Your real nails may be very thin and brittle, so be careful. If you have a nail strengthing polish, it may be a good idea to coat your nails. I hope that some of these tips are helpful to you and I hope that you are able to remove the nails with little trouble. Good Luck!

I just did this. Get yourself a bowl and fill it with nail polish remover until your nails are covered. Doing one hand at a time. Have a nail file and emery board on hand. This process will take close to an hour. But you save the money from not going to the salon, and having them trying to talk you into doing it again. Once I took the nails off I kept a top coat, like 4 and 5 coats so my nails wouldn't start breaking off. Then after a week, I went and had them professionally manicured. Also, pick up some Nail Envy, it is a strengthener for your nails to help replenish them.

It's easy if you soak them in acetone. It is available in the nail section of Health & Beauty or you can buy it cheaper if you go to a paint store, like Sherman Williams. It is the same chemical, just cheaper.

Soak them in the acetone for a few minutes and the nails will start to soften and come off easily. Be sure to condition nails and cuticles because acetone is very drying.

PURE ACETONE! you can get it at walgreens or Sallys! DO NOT RIP THEM OFF! It is very damaging to the nail bed! You will have to soak them for a while but its less damaging! After you get the majority acrylic off then you can use a buffer to cut down the rest! your nails are going to be very fragile! I would recommend using a cuticle oil and Nail Envy... You might not be able to get nail envy unless you go to a nail salon because only professionals can purchase this! again... DO NOT PEEL THEM OFF!

I bought a bottle of acetone from Wal-Mart for about $1.97 and I just pour some in a bowl and soak my fingertips for about 15 minutes. That always seems to work.

soak them in some water and gently lift them off. Or do I as did and bite them off them ...lol. but putting them in some nice warm water or any water works because the glue is not strong to stand against water that why they say wear gloves when washing dishes with nails on.
