You actually need to put an end to that silliness right away! The baby can't actually buy a present for anyone, so why are you doing it? Christmas presents should be voluntary and from the heart, anything else is phony and fake! You need to sit your wife down and explain that! Doing that kind of nonsense is exactly what make the Christmas Season overly commercialized, uncomfortable and unpleasant for all.
My family here in Mexico is huge and there is no way we can afford to buy presents for 15 brothers and sisters-in-law, 20 nieces and nephews, and the 40 or so assorted aunts, uncles and close cousins who all show up for Christmas. So we just put all the names in a hat, pick one and you just but THAT person a present. Then we spend the money we save on better food, better booze, more fun and more "Christmas and New Years!" The Christmases we spend down here are simply the greatest I have even had in my life......
My sister and her family in Canada do the opposite. They buy presents for everyone under the sun. They buy presents for each other from each of their 12 dogs, the cat, even the iguana! They spend 11 months of each year just paying off the credit cards, they are all stressed out for the whole month of December and they usually get in huge fights Christmas Day over who bought the "best" present........ Christmases spent up there with them end up with me wishing I'd been eaten by rats......
When you get so obsessed with the presents that you have to buy them from the baby, the dog, the cat, the gerbil etc., you have long past entirely missed the true meaning of Christmas.........

When my friend's mother was pregnant with her, her father went out and bought the appropriate birthstone ring (since mother and baby were born in the same month). He gave her the ring, and my friend's mother decided if she had been a boy, she'd keep it for herself, but since she was a girl, her mother held onto it until she was responsible enough to care for it. You could do something like that.
Also, clothes, perfume, movies, and a night out would work well too. Hope this helps!

How old is "the baby?" could you have him/her go to the store and pick something out for her?? (Probabbly not, just an idea.)
Is this like a joke gift or a serious gift? If it's a serious gift, she'd love a day at the spa.
If it's a joke gift... have "the baby" pick it out!

there are a number of jewellery concepts for Grandmothers and mothers that have the birthstones of all their childrens/grandkids on it. Have u considered the necklaces that have little youngster pendants that have the birthstone on it? good thought!
