That's probably because it wasn't the prince of nigeria... it was some scammer in Nigeria. He (or she) is trying to steal your money by (most probably) promising to send you even more money if you "invested" in his company, or something similar (it doesn't matter if the scenario is different, the motives are all the same)

Hahahah, that's one of the oldest, most popular money scams on the internet. It's usually the prince/king of an African country that needs your account # so he can transfer his money into the US or claim his inheritance.
