region 2 is the standard region for western europe (which includes the uk) and south africa, region 0 works as well.

Normal uk tv's use pal, so sometimes a region 2 with ntsc won't work on a tv.

(yes, people do sell region 2 ntsc, but it's not japanese ntsc, it's usually american ntsc. It's as if they don't want people to watch the dvds).

Also, france is supposed to be region 2 as well, but since france uses secam (which is really modified pal) some french dvds are a bit buggy on uk computers.

It's best to get a multiregion player anyway, region 2 is the most expensive one to get dvds for.
