What could be wrong especially after a power outage:

1. Power Supply
2. Video Card
3. CPU
4. Motherboard
5. RAM

In that order. If any of those specific items have been damaged due to a power outage, your computer will fail to even POST.

Something to try if your not weary is to unplug everything, take the side panel off your computer, and take out the RAM and the other removable cards (such as video card, modem.. etc) Sometimes they can store a charge for a short period of time and reseating them can dissipate the leftover charge. The other thing that you can do after is press the power button before you plug all the cords back in. Again, there could be some charge left in the system and pressing the button will help get rid of it.

Once you plug everything in and get it all situated to turn on, press the power button and listen for any beeps and look to see if any of the lights come on. Like mentioned earlier, check to see if you can press the CAPS LOCK and get any lights on or off.

If nothing happens at all, it probably is your power supply, and depending on the model, it could be between 30-50 dollars for a worthwhile replacement, granted that you can replace it yourself.

If you hear a string of beeps, let us know how many, depending on the motherboard, you can easily find out what is wrong from a set of beep codes.

Good luck!

It could either be the video card or the display. If you have another monitor, then try hooking that up to your video card. Also, if you have a non-integrated graphics card and you motherboard has an integrated graphics card (you should see another input for the display's cable), then try hooking it up to that and see if you get a picture.

EDIT: There are a lot of simplistic solutions above me that you're going to want to double-check first. (ie. the brightness, make sure everything is connected properly, etc).

EDIT 2: A power failure? You didn't think that was important information the first time around? Any one or more of your components could be fried. Do you have the computer on a surge protector? Is the monitor on that surge protector? As others asked, do you hear a beep when you boot the computer, does the hard drive spin, does the monitor flicker? You'll really not giving enough info, here.

First unplug the cable from the back of the PC from the card to the monitor make sure your monitor is powered off. After you do that turn your monitor on and see if anything is displayed. Usually this is a self test for monitors, where it will display "no Video" or "no input" or something like that. If there is something on the screen then you know its not the monitor itself. Plug the monitor back in the right spot on your PC, if you are using a video card, has it always worked before, or is it new that you just installed? Make sure if its not new that its the card and not the IO on the mobo that you are trying to connect it to. If your video card has a fan on it, is it spinning when you boot up? Reseat the video card in the expansion slot. Have you made any changes hardware/software before this happened? Also, does the power light stay on on your machine? Check the flee light on your motherboard to see if it is still lit and that you are actually even getting power to your board. If the light does stay on, can you hit the CAPSLOCK button and the light will turn on, on the keyboard for CAPS? If so then you could have a bad video card, assuming your monitor test passed. If not, then your machine is not POSTING correctly. Give us a little more info..

We think every thing is connected right. But most of the times it is wrong. The best option would be for you to un plug every damn thing from the computer including power supply connection. Reconnect every thing carefully then plug it into power supply and turn on. I bet your computer will not only work but runs. Believe me. Still it does not then the problem is with your computer's operating system Run the windows reload CD that came with your system, follow the steps carefully. This will take an hour so be patient. If you call some one to fix your computer it will cost you more than buying a new latest one from store. Don't do that. Those guys will rip you off. Good Luck

Are the lights on your keyboard coming on, and can you hear the hard drive running?
Try unplugging your monitor from the computer as well - most monitors these days will have a thing that will come up on the screen that will tell you it's unplugged - that will let you know if the monitor is good or bad. Most likely it's a bad video card.

It could be the video card - but it could also be your power down/power off or EnergyStar settings on the monitor.

Have you tried adjusting the brightness on the monitor? I know it's kinda goofy, and I'm not saying that you don't know anything about monitors - but I've been in this business for a while, and sometimes, we play jokes on each other - and sometimes, someone sneaks up and turns the brightness to "darkness" on our monitors - it's freaky!

Try that.

Also, if it is a video card setting, try keeping the monitor on, but powering the computer off, then on again. That might fix it.

Good luck!

If you see nothing at all, it could be your power supply, the CPU chip or the video card. The first thing that should appear in a working computer when you turn it on is a bootup message from the video card.

If your monitor data cable is loose, or the video card are loose this could cause the same problem. Video cards go bad when they overheat. The more powerful they are, the more this is likely.

Good luck.

Yes ...could be the video card...

or the monitor...
or the monitor cable ...
or the BIOS...
or various other factors.

We need to know more ....
Before the problem started :

- had you made any hardware changes
- had you made any BIOS changes
- was the unit hit, bumped or moved
- was there a power failure in your home
etc...

These details will help us help you. Right now it's a pot shot on whose answer will be accurate .... expert or not.

Shut down the computer. Wait 30 seconds. Reboot. Does it produce any beeps?(post codes).Watch the monitor while it boots. Does the screen even flicker? Finally,is the face of the screen staticy? Good Luck! ;-)=

it may be your video card, or your monitor's voltage is not compatible with the voltage of your socket, or maybe the cord connecting to your monitor has a problem or your monitor has a problem alredy
