It means to have become physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually experienced, and to have derived empathy, understanding and balance from that experience. We're mature when we've embraced our responsibilities, to ourselves and others...when we accept the consequences of our choices, when we've come to respect the essential value of others, when we're secure enough to admit and learn from our mistakes....when life is no longer about us, but something bigger than us.

To me, what distinguishes a mature adult from immaturity is a critical factor. It is an experienced awareness of the effect one's actions are having on the world, on oneself and on others. The really mature adult is the one who is particularly experienced at recognizing the effect one's actions are having on others. He or she expresses the gift of their own personality in this context. The mature person knows this is not an easy art but accepts the challenge.

A mature adult, to me, is one who thinks rationally before making a decision, puts his/her family before anything else, works hard, and possesses wisdom, experience, and intellect. I don't think that age is ever a factor; a mature adult can be 23 or 48.

But what do I know? I'm only 19.

to understand the difference between wants and needs, to aviod temptations when there's things that need to be done. To put your family/work above partying and drinking. To know your limits. To chose the right things over the wrong things, reguardless of what you think is 'fun'. To show good examples and be a good rolemodel to those who are younger than you

I guess it starts when we are able to respect the others and their opinions whether we agree with them or not and don't think our opinion on things is the only right one...
