Place a rubber mat or a towel in the bottom of the sink to prevent chipping. Wash crystal in hot soapy water and rinse, then dip in a bath of water and 1/2 of vinegar. Drain, then dry with a dishtowel that will not leave lint (do not use paper towels or terrycloth towels)
One poster suggested newspaper. Although this works great on windows, I would not use it on glassware -- too difficult to manage and then there is the ink.
Absolute best window cleaning method: hot water, a little simple green, and a little vinegar. Wash window with a washcloth then dry with newspaper. Wear rubber gloves because your hands will get black.

I line my sink with a towel, fill it with hot soapy water to which I add about a teaspoon of dishwasher liquid. This cleans all grease and residue from the glassware sitting. I then rinse in hot water and place on clean towels to dry for a few minutes. I then use a lint free dish towel (not terry) to remove any possible spots. Did you know that glass is a substance that the more it's washed, the stronger it gets. It's true!

do no longer propose to be argumentative, yet are you specific the glass is crystal? if so, then what you have is an etched backside of the glass. Glass is non porous so any staining is somewhat etching brought about by ability of acid (wine has plenty). If etched, the only thank you to sparkling up is to have it professionally polished.

Forget vinager...it smells bad and is messy!!
We use this cleaning cloth from www.EazeeClean.com...You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially our crystal and silver. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe the surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I even waxed my car with it! I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out.

Fill the kitchen sink with washing up water, lay a towel on the bottom of the sink to prevent chipping, wash one at a time, rinse & leave to dry naturally or dry with a soft clean pot towel.

Vinegar (white distilled) will do the trick. Also when you use newspaper it will not leave the fuzzies behind like paper towels will. Newspapers and vinegar are great to use on all of your windows too :)
Good Luck
