Why do police wear black uniforms now?

I hear a rumor it becomming common for police all around the world wearing black. Is this just coindience or something more?

I see black,blue,tan,brown.I have seen combos of these Blue pant and white shirt,brown pant tan shirt.The main time I have seen all black uniforms is when the officer is a TACT team or swat team member.

It depends on your location and season I guess, as I see them in different colors and different hats.
