It is generally a time of reflection and a time for people to come together with family and friends. For some people there is no opportunity to do this. They are lonely as they see everyone around them coming together to celebrate the season. They often feel hopeless. I have a felt sad at this time of year. Last year was a terrible year for me. But no, I have never considered killing myself.
I'm female--32.

As a child of a suicidal parent, I have read up on suicide and depression. and I faound that during holidays and spring the suicide rate increases dramatically. They theorize that everyone around them is happy and doesn't understand that ther is no hope. The season goes against everything they feel and think. female, 30.

no, I'm rarely depressed. I think mainly people between 20 and 60 are disposed to it. The holiday season is a "good" time for it, because those who are lonely realizes that they are alone, and somehow feel rejected by their ambiance and seeing others happy make them feel even more miserable.
The other problem is that those who live in temperate zone experience a drop in their activities and their spirits sank in winter-time.

People have lost loved ones or are missing someone, some people hate the fact that they are single and have to attend another party alone. I think the rate goes up do to those reasons but no one can ever know the true reasons why someone takes their own life.

Actually, statistically, January has the highest rate of suicides because all of the "holidays" are over and it becomes a very lonely time.

It's a time to remember and usually things or people that are gone or have been lost are what is remembered. That makes people unhappy or they want to be with them.
