7.5 is regarded as generally enough.
Some say 7, some say 8.
Once, there was an adult man in the far east, which never went to bed (i don't know if he still is alive, so i can't tell how old he is/became). He only now and then (maybe 1 or 2 few times a day) leaned against something to get some rest (but not for many hours).
At least, that's what the guiness book of records (somewhere in the eighties) stated, as being the one who needed the lowest amount of sleep.
Wiki:
An American study linked life spans with sleep amount and found that those who sleep 4 to 7 hours live longer lives, with those sleeping less than 4 or more than 9 hours having about a 30% increased chance of early death, similar to moderate obesity[1]. This study is highly controversial however, and The National Sleep Foundation maintains that 8 hours of sleep is optimal, claiming improved performance in tests, reduced risk of accidents and a better immune system.[citation needed] A widely publicized 2003 study[2] performed at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine demonstrated that cognitive performance declines with less than eight hours of sleep.

I think, if you get less than 8 hours sleep, eventually it will catch up with you. If you are working one or two jobs or taking care of a family/one job,you will begin to look tired and worn out. You will not be as accurate and sharp in your thinking. Most all of us can go without 8 hours sleep for a short time; during emergencies, etc. Less sleep would also make a bad driver.

You need to ask your doctor. SOme can be fine on 4-5 per day. Some need the full 8. Some can do with something in between. One warning I can give, from me being in the same situation at your age, is that your immune system gets weaker when you exhaust yourself daily. I got meningitis while working 3 jobs and going to school full time. Be careful with yourself! The body is more fragile than we think sometimes.

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.
I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.
I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)
Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

it depends on you if you feel 6 hours sleep sufficient for you than u should sleep only 6 hours but if u feel tired after 6 hours sleep than u should sleep 8 hours. My age is 22 and i am preparing for civil service examination and i sleep only 3-4 hours but i dont feel exausted but my other freinds sleep atleast for 6 hours. So it depends on u and ur need.
Sri Sri Ravishankar ( founder of Art of living said that he sleep only 2-3 hours then also he is so fit and fine and crores of indian follow his surdarshan kriya)

You should aim for at least 7 hours a day/night. Good luck though. I work nights and it can be really difficult to get quality sleep.
