frankly i dont like in an islamic country but there's freedom of practice so the number of muslim not wearing hejab is more than those wearing and we dont get beaten up for that.. relax~

Hey girl salaam you look good with hejab. Just ignore whatever negative stereotype you get from people. i wear hejab and I'm part puert rican part Palestinian. People love to stereotype because it saves them from having to think and get to know someone i guess.

Yes, they do...but to get rid of stereotyping you must educate others, because most people just don't know any better.

So instead of being upset explain to them that wearing a hejab does not imply where a person is from but part of your religious beliefs. Just as the Jewish wear a Yamaka/skull cap.

Nat, if you consider it a must to wear a hejab, go ahead and do so. I wonder though, if you removed it in public, will you be admonished and beaten, what is the Muslim punishment for such a tragic violation?

How did you learn about hijab and why do you wear one, given the current climate of distrust and fear? It sounds to me as if you enjoy poking other people in the eye and then getting all indignant when they protest. You can whine "stereotyping" all you want, but you come across as immature, shallow and insincere. In American society, those who hide their faces are considered to be hiding something sinister - which you should darn well know. Either lose the hijab or be prepared to be viewed with suspicion and distrust. You're not going to change others by whining about it,

Well you cant change closed minds. The question we ask is how do we respond and retain our originality. Christan nuns cover their heads it does not disturb them, if one were to pass them they would bow their head and seek their blessing address them as mother or sister. I come from a land that respects all religion and practises so we have learnt to live in harmony with every thing people, nature even animals. I hope every body respects others for what they are and not what they want them to be.

They don't get out much then, that's for certain. I have a lot of friends who wear hijab, one of them born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, USA and another who was originally from the next county over from me in Tennessee. One was African-American, the other Cherokee (like I am.) People are dense, and don't realize that hijab is a purely religious choice rather than something "ethnic."

The majority of te american people are unware of the number of counrties and cultures out there. Most people didn't know where Iran, Iraq, Or Isreal was until 2001.

I doubt they care one way or the other. You could wear a red gorilla suit and People still wouldn't give a flying donut about You or whatever fairy tales You believe in. Hey, have a Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year!

Yes they do, but in the middle east they do wear them a lot so they feel that you must be from there.

Yes, people like to categorize other people because it makes the world more simple and easier to deal with. You do it too, sweetheart :-)
