It was the french Fleet that dealt the knock-out blow. Had the French not supported the colonists, the outcome could have been very much different and the Americans could be playing cricket , rather than baseball.

Both deserve credit, of course. But the real knockout punch was delivered earlier when Admiral de Grasse defeated British Admiral Thomas Graves at the Battle of the Chesapeake.

By defeating Graves, de Grasse effectively stranded Cornwallis. The Americans had him bottled up on land, and the French fleet left him no escape by sea. He was thus trapped, leaving him no option but to surrender.

No. They was an overturned tractor-trailer blocking the on-ramp to the freeway and traffic was backed up for hours.

Militarily it was a combined effort, one without the other would have been a failure.
