That seemed to happen with our old washer as it got older. We switched to a liquid detergent and washed less clothes per load. Fill the washer loosely with clothes - don't pack it in. We also filled the washer with water first and let the detergent agitate for a minute before adding clothes. These measures helped, but did not totally eliminate the problem. We found that sometimes we had to put the clothes through an extra rinse cycle. In the end we got a new washer - a front loader - problem disappeared.

Using cold water? If so, the powder is not dissolving totally. Warm or hot water will dissolve the powder better. If you can, fill the machine add the powder, agitate and then check to see if the powder is all dissolved before adding the clothes. Are you overfilling the machine with too many clothes? If so, perhaps the clothes don't agitate enough during the rinse cycle and the soap is not getting removed. How hard is your water? Soap residue is a good indicator of a hard water problem. Try adding Borax along with your detergent. Calgon will also help for hard water. "Powder residue" can also occur with liquid soap if you water is too hard.

Seems you have a prob with rinsing clothes. Does all the water drain properly? Check the Pump Filter (blocked????) Clean the greasy deposits inside the machine, they choke up everything, Get a bag of Washing Soda from Asda/Tesco, throw whole bag in, very hot wash, clears all that gungy grease, may well solve your problem, also cleans your drains generally for good measure. I do this monthly...clean machine!!!

1. Use a different powder (even better still, use a liquid)
2. Dont put so much washing in as the washer can't rinse properly

Your washing machine probably has a rinsing problem, if this is not the case, try use liquid soap instead of powdered one.

Don't put the clothes in right away. Start the water, and then add the powder. Swish it around with your hand, and then don't add your clothes until the water is completely filled. This helps me when I have to use powder.

first off, your washing machine is just like any tool. it has to be wiped out from time to time. Another suggestion would be switch your washing detergent to a liquid detergent instaed od a powder. also add a fabric softner in the rinse.

its because your adding too much powder into the machine, reduce this
also turn your clothin inside out when you wash them, that way the white powder will be on the inside
Also it could be because your putting too much clothing into the washing machine possibly reduce this too.
