I just began a new job a bout 1 1/2 months ago. As expected being the new kid on the block is challenging sometimes but here's the catch; My boss talks crap about me and I know about it we have a very close working situation and when certain people change their attitude around you its obvious. I have helped her out a great deal since startig and have been keeping myself up and above par since day one.

I have no idea how to handle this situation, and any pointers for a boss who is making things diffuclt would be great!

How about meeting with her to discuss this? The key is to keep it nonconfrontational: "I feel as if you're not happy with me, and I'm wondering what I can do to change that." Keep it professional, don't argue...just see if you can get an idea where she's coming from.

She may be full of crap, she may have something constructive to offer...you get to decide what if anything you'll change.

Just a thought.

This one is easy. Keep doing your job to the very best of your potential. Do it better than everyone else. And dont expect credit for doing it. Just do your job. There are far too many people who expect things for doing a good job, but they forget that doing a "good job" is the opinion of the boss and not you. But if you are doing what you were hired to do, and you leave your problems at home, and you dont gossip or get sucked into other people's gossip, your boss will not have a problem with you. If you show up, do your job, and do it with a good attitude, and the boss STILL is causing problems, you should visit their boss.

Document any time she is obviously violating the employee handbook or applicable laws. Go to HR. Sit down with them and tell them what's going on and how it's affecting you.

I strongly advise against putting up with it for very long. There's alot of jobs out there. Each office, like each individual, has it's own personality. If your personality does not mesh with the general office personality, it's going to be very difficult for you to focus on work and be productive. I've been there. In the event HR is unable or unwilling to help you, get your resume out there and as soon as you have another job secured, put in your 2 weeks.
